New tire selection for my TV.
So where are we at with this these days? Last I looked it was the LTX M/S2. That is what I have on my trailer.
Now I looked at they are The MICHELIN® Defender® LTX® M/S ?
I am looking for a great tire, I know that is of debate, I really like my Michelins. They are going on a 2005 Ford Excursion.
I have Firestone Transforce tires on there now, 4 years old. They were replaced while on a trip after a mad blowout. I'm going on a 8000 mile trip and don't want to take chances.
Thanks

What size you tire? Michelin LT rated tires still has a following here for sure, with the TV's. I just installed a new set from Costco on my F250. Issues are with the 15" models as they do not make an LT in that size any longer.

Sorry about that, I believe they are LT265/75R16 Load Range E, with a load index of 123.
Thanks

Should be fine. I would make sure they were LT rated; the LTX Michelin uses is confusing, and does not mean they are rated (Light Truck)...Costco has a great sale going again right now with the $70 discount and installation for a $.01, I believe...typically, some other discount tires shops will match Costco.

I have Defenders on our F250. Very good service, air pressure stability, smooth ride and quiet. And expensive, but I wouldn't consider anything else. Defender was their new technology a year or two ago and it has served us well. I was apprehensive at first, having used LTX-MS for years, but I like these at least as well, maybe better. I think they are quieter. Michelin will probably have another new iteration soon, but you won't go wrong with Defenders.

I installed Michelin LTX A/T2 LT275/65 R18 in my 2015 F150 Before our Alaska trip, Also the 16 inch Michelin Airstream upgrade. My DW complained about the cost, but thanked me after a few days in Alaska. Check the fit before buying the LT275/65 R18 they are about the largest tire that will fit my F150 without adding a lift kit.

I know i am in the minority - but put on Michelin's on my 2500 Diesel RAM last year, and immediately had a worse ride than the stock tires i had on when purchased. Have now had them on for a year and very disappointed from a ride standpoint. I keep the Tire pressure the same as previous tires. On the plus side, no sign of wear yet.

Which Michelins and size are you running and what PSI in them? If your running max pressure, 80PSI, you might try reducing and see if that helps. I run 75PSI on my LTX AT2 LT 275x65xR20, because I pull the 28' AS with fairly heavy cargo in the bed, and I want the extra PSI in my TV tires. This is my second set since the truck was new and I love this tire/ride. Of course, I switched to Michelins many years ago on all my vehicles because the ride and the road noise was better, in my experience, with Michelins.

Last year before Alaska trek, from Florida, I changes all tires on TV and Trailer. Put Michelin18" defenders m/s on tv....Same on trailer except 16" . I felt ride was enhanced all around, no problems with construction of tires, but, these suckers love to toss road " chips" like crazy. Need massive mud flaps to protect front of AS. Believe me......I know . Just in case though, NAPA in Dawson BC has flaps, build your own!

I'm having Michelin LTX A/T2s installed on my 2016 RAM 2500 4x4 as we speak. The OEM Firestone Transforce AT set lasted 10K. I replaced them on my way back from Alaska in 2017 with Michelin Defender LTX M/S. Those lasted 28K before all of the outside edges wore down to the wear marks. 95% of the miles on the RAM are towing a 7K pound 25FB. I probably could have gotten 7K+ more miles of easy, non-towing miles on the tires.
America's Tire is setting them at 65/75. I ran the last set at 68/78.
My dealer put the wear down to the very heavy 6.7 diesel engine and the 7K tow.

I've bought two sets of Defenders (different vehicles) in the past 3 years. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Regarding Firestone Transforce. They came on my class b and was very happy with the ride, handling, and low road noise. Why did I replace them after 3 yrs. with only about 20,000 miles on them and plenty of tread life remaining? Because of sidewall cracks. First around the tire bead on one and then on the sidewalls of two more. I didn't want to take any chances.

I find that interesting!
I have never had any sidewall cracking issues with Firestone Transforce tires however EVERY MICHELIN tire I have ever owned ALWAYS end up with side wall cracking. Yes I still buy Michelin's for certain vehicles particularly cars and I still use Transforce Firestone's for use on my heavy PU trucks.

They were four identical Transforce HT's, except two were stamped "Made in Canada" and the other two were stamped "Made in U.S.A.". One USA was the first to crack at the tire bead (at about the two year mark). About 9 mos. later (at the three year mark), one other USA and one of the Canada began cracking about mid sidewall and the original bead cracks were getting worse. The other Canada was ok when replaced. Maybe something unique to the Load Range E in my tire size.
I'd heard of Michelin sidewalls cracking, but that was several years ago and I am hoping it is in the past. I rarely wear out tires, so end up replacing at the 6 yr. mark. I was happy with the Transforce, but replaced out of caution.

Yesterday I got a set of Continental CrossContact LX20's. 285/45/22. They are highly rated by Consumers, although there have been spotty reports of pre-mature tread wear.

I put Michelin LTX on my trailer and was not impressed, after 4 years in the shade they had scary cracks in the tread and sidewall.
I’m trying cooper tires now, for about 1/2 the price. I won’t pay a premium for tires that can’t survive 4 years under cover.

I’m a big Michelin fan, but when I went to replace my TV tires I want3d to go up in capacity. Ended up with Yokohama’s 275/55R20 117H rated. 3peak rated as well for winter traction. Couldn’t find a comparable Michelin.

I ran a set of OEM Michelin LTXs on my 2005 Airstream Interstate. They were replaced at 60,000 miles and 6 years with plenty of tread left but some sidewall checking. They may have lasted longer if I'd kept the wheels covered when not in use.
My 2016 RAM 2500 came with Firestone Transforce ATs. They lasted 10,000 miles before I replaced them with Michelin LTX M/Ss at Canadian Tire in Prince George BC, on our return from a 2016 trip to Alaska.
Those Canadian Tire Michelin LTX M/Ss lasted 28,000 miles. The inner and outer treads were worn down to the wear marks. The insides were at 5/32, not shallow enough for a Michelin pro-rate. I ran them at 68/78 psi.
Last week I replaced those Michelin LTX M/Ss with Michelin LTX A/T 2s from America's Tire. I'll run them at 68/78. They have a more aggressive tread than the LTX M/S and should be a better all around tire for our type of Airstream traveling. 95% of the RAM's mileage is towing a 2017 25FB.
I'm hoping for better than 28K on the LTX A/T 2s. I've always seen at least 50K on my Michelin shod trucks over the past 25 years.

So I went with the Michelin Defender Load Range E and drove them from Boston to Phoenix with no issues. Great tires.
