Nails and screws

How is it that nails laying on the road go straight onto the tread on your tire? Its like they stand up at attention when they see a tire coming.

I know is happens more often on the second axle than the first.

Maybe the first tire wakes up the nail, and the second tire squishes it. Flat.

My experience has been that not only do they stand up for my tires, but they usually manage to move left or right to be in JUST the right position near where tread and sidewall meet to make a patch unworkable too.

I approached an intersection and couldn't avoid a carpet of little round blue things. As soon as I went over, I knew they were roofing nails with the plastic 1" buttons, all laying at prime position to impale my tires. Pulled over and removed 17 of them. Couple of cans of fix-a-flat got me to a tire center. Couldn't believe someone lost an entire 50# box of roofing nails off their truck.
