HI

Four "shoes" for our AS replaced this morning via warranty recall. Spare was out of recall time frame.

"The Catch"…Michelin only paid the store $20.00 / tire to complete all the paperwork, and mount the tires!!!!! I'll bet it didn't even cover their costs of keeping the store open. I was happy for the new tires, but frustrated for the dealer. Zigi

Doesn't make sense that they would cheap out on that. My shop had the paperwork and it stated free replacement without any other catches that I am aware. Got new high pressure valve stems, etc. I was dead set on road force balancing and was prepared to pay the difference, but they said it was all good.

I don't know if anyone has tried to get tires replaced lately under this recall but I'll tell what I experienced with it. Due to being winter here and the EB stored I didn't start to deal with this until about 3 weeks ago. It turned out all 5 tires on our Eddie Bauer were affected by the recall. First there are only 4 Michelin dealers in town and the first 3 said they couldn't get tires and couldn't (wouldn't in my opinion) help.

The last option was the Ford dealer and these guys could not have been nicer. Only problem was after several calls they made to their normal wholesaler and then to Michelin, they found that indeed there were no Michelin tires available. Michelin told the Ford dealer they were not keeping up and then authorized any BFG or Uniroyal tire. Since we are leaving shortly for a long trip we went with BFG tires in the same spec, i.e. size, load range etc.

So if you need to get tires replaced under this recall you might want to plan ahead a little.

Have not seen any mention of this yet but if you happen to be going to Jackson Center you can get the replacement done there. Just made appointment to have mine done in mid-May when I'll be in the area for the Dayton Hamvention.

Michelin tire recall LTX M/S LT 225/75R16 E

Hi,

In case this has not yet been posted (I have not checked that it has), I thought I would pass it along. This is the safety recall link for the LTX M/S LT 225/75R16 load range E tires. You will see that the date range is: January 2010 - June 2012, and there is also a picture of the DOT information to look for on the sidewall of the tire.

Safety Recall : MICHELIN LTX M/S | Michelin Tires

Hope this helps.. apologies if this is a redundant post!

Glad you could get tires and I'm not surprised Michelin is out of tires. Goodrich is Michelin's cheaper brand. They came on our Tundra years ago and didn't last and rode badly, though our new FJ Cruiser came with Goodrich also and we'll see how they last. Did Michelin say they would replace the Goodrich's with Michelin's when they were available.

It is a one shot deal, the BFG are it. Goodrich has been around for donkey's years, as you say probably not the top brand available but since we're leaving next week on a 10000 mile trip, new BFG instead of Michelins with a known problem seemed like about the only smart decision.

Rick, I understand and because of our experience with Goodrich, we would have probably taken the Uniroyals. Michelin has owned Goodrich for quite a while now, and the ones we had in 2007 may be very inferior to the ones they make now. Hope so.

Enjoy your trip.

These might be a good alternative for those with 16-inch wheels:

Went down today to my inside storage to check the tires for the recall. Date wise we fell right into the timeframe of the manufacturing of the recalled tires. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the DOT sequence on my tires differed. So I'm off the hook and have a good set of tires. The first two characters of the DOT sequence identify the plant that manufactured the tires, so apparently not all of these tires in our style and size, manufactured within the timeframe of concern are bad. What's interesting is the dates of manufacture of the bad tires. From the recall letter, the production period was from the 2nd week of 2010 through the 25th week of 2012. I'm assuming that such a long period of time probably means something wrong with some equipment mold for this sized tire that produced randomly bad tires.

After more research of the coding on the tires, based on the Plant Code "B3", the bad tires were produced at the Nova Scotia, Canada plant. My tires have the code "B7" which means they were produced in Dothan Alabama.

Here's a link to the Michelin plant codes. MANUFACTURERS' INFORMATION DATABASE (MID) | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Just enter in the name of the tire brand and search. On the page which comes up, scroll down and you will get a listing of the code and plant associated.

While brand new tires would have been nice, but I'm not disappointed since mine were manufactured 2412 and I put them on about 6 weeks later so they are relatively new.

All 5 of our EB tires are under recall. As noted, there are no Michelin replacements available to put on yet (back ordered). The tires "look" good, and have not been loosing air. I am holding off until Michelin has replacements, despite leaving on a cross country RV trip in 2 weeks.

Michelin LTX M/S LT 225/75R16 tires are available. I bought a set along with Sendel wheels from Discount Tire, Melbourne, FL about two weeks ago. It took them one day to get them from their distribution center. The manufacture date was 0114 (1st week of January, 2014). Must be they aren't available where you live or recall replacements are being handled separately.

As soon as I read about this recall on this forum in December, I pulled the trigger on my order at CostCo for the five new 16" Michelins as I knew there would be a "shortage" generated by this huge demand.

They are now installed on the new trailer.
