Michelin: AGILIS CrossClimate 16 Inch Tires

These wheels and tires are being installed on our 2019 27FB Airstream. The original Airstream factory 15 inch wheels and 15 inch Goodyear Endurance tires are being removed and replaced with the following.

We require thicker tread for our Off the Grid Boondocking ‘Adventures’.

I will be selling, to offset my costs, these new Goodyear ST225/75R/15, LRD Endurance tires and (factory- Sendel S20 6 lug aluminum wheels?) with less than 30 miles to a lucky Trailer Owner. For the majority of Airstream owners, these will be perfect.

“The Michelin site has Standard Manufacturer’s Limited Warranty covering defects in workmanship and materials for the life of the original usable tread, or for 6 YEARS from date of purchase, whichever occurs first.”

Possibly any warranty issues would be directed to Michelin, itself. Someone may know.

This is the current 'option' for my previous LTX225/75R/LRE tire size for Michelin I had installed on the 2014 25 foot International. The Agilis CrossClimate replaces the previous 16 inch tires I had installed in 2014 and replace the Defender tires and now are: Michelin AGILIS CrossClimate branded tires.

Costco was having their Michelin ‘Sale’ with $110 discounted from their regular price(s). You may want to shop around for the wheels, as there is a good chance of a better price and the tires. Some wheel dealers had ONE Sendel, another could not get them... but Shadow Trailer had five in stock, and I had them delivered to my door four days after ordering. Of course, they are located in Cypress, California so are within four hours of Boulder City, Nevada.

I am having the tires installed tomorrow at Costco. I am bringing in the FIVE Wheels, metal pressure valves from Shadow Tires tossed into the price.

Once mounted onto the trailer, I will check out these fit in the fender wells. Also the space between each axle/tire for you to compare.

If I discover an error in the above, or someone notices a possible error, please post the difference. This needs to be accurate for many reasons.

I installed a 3” Dexter Lift Kit and gained over 2 1/2 inches more clearance above the axles.

That's the right size. I opted to NOT replace my Michelins with Michelins because the Agilis was "inexperienced" in the USA. I had a bad experience with a new line of Michelins on my wife's MB a few years back so I will only use their tires that have many good reviews in the USA. Seems like the 16's are too small for trucks these days.

Larry... I am going to give these a good test.

If Goodyear can improve the Marathon into an Endurance... Michelin changed the LT225's 16 inch tires into the Agilis after two SUCCESSFUL previous tires.

Costco tells you up front there is no mileage warranty, etc. I have to make the assumption that Michelin will cover legitimate failures of these 'new' different kind of LT225's.

If others have chosen these and are in use, we would like to hear your first response. The Michelin flyer at Costco gave an impressive write up. As has Goodyear Endurance promotions. If both live up to their advertising... we will all be happy.

Installed five of the Michelin AGILIS CrossClimate All Weather LT225/75R16 LRE tires last week on my existing SenDel T03-66655T wheels. The sidewall max load now occuers at 90 psi vs 80 psi on the prior model. So instead of shooting for 72.5 psi and settling on 75 psi, I now have to use 82 psi for the same 2,500 pound load to have the same safety margin.

I also installed the new Tuson TPMS system with senders mounted inside the tire and removed the Dill 1506-453 TPMS system. The new TPMS displays is color whereas the Dill was LCD and hard to read when the display was in the sun.

Discount Tire offered their full warranty and tire care package. So the final price for five tires mounted and balanced with full replacement warranty was $1,447.75 with a 10% rebate coming in the mail. The net cost is $1,302.98 vs $1,187.69 at CostCo in late 2013 with no warranty.

Did some calculations and tread depths and cost of tires.

Goodyear 15 inch Endurance: .25 inch/6.35mm tread depth- $116/$130/$146 max each

Michelin 16 inch Agilis: .36 inch/9.2mm tread depth- $197/$209 each

Both are E Rated Tires. I did check speed ratings: 87mph for the Endurance tires and 106mph for the Agilis. Either are impressive, unless you Race Airstreams.

Probably a great comparison in tread depth, speed rating and price difference. If the Endurance holds up to its new reputation... not a bad deal overall for the casual traveler.

I did not search the weight ratings... someone may have that at their finger tip.

I noted that higher pressure setting on another thread regarding the Aglis tire. One of our tire experts noted that there was a discrepancy in the inflation chart for that tire.

I would double check that inflation chart with Michelin.

I have run out of comments after this last discovery:

The 2019 International Signature 27 foot trailer's SPARE TIRE cage is large enough to put a 17 inch tire and wheel into it. The 16 inch Michelin fits with an inch or so room, to spare, with this 2019 Airstream.

My 2014 International needed a few bends on the side brackets to fit the 16 inch spare.

I cannot think of anything else to add. I appreciate the feedback and hopefully someone was able to find some information of value. My 16 inch tires are mounted on the trailer, spare is secured and lug nuts torqued at 110#.

I am still curious about why the lug nuts were so tight off the Airstream lot. I will keep a close examination at gas station stops, just in case.

FYI... I've been lurking this Forum for months since April and just got my password issues resolved so I can post/reply now I have ordered the Sendel T03-66655T 16X6 6/5.5 Aluminum T03 Trailer Wheels (5 of them), and the NEW REPLACEMENT tires for the LTX tire: Michelin AGILIS CROSSCLIMATE LT225/75 R16 E115 112R BSW. Discount Tire sez everything should be in within the next week or so. Next trip not scheduled till November.

How can I find the recommended real-world tire pressure for the AGILIS tires on my 2017 FC 25 RB Twin?

For other members: I will be selling the four (4) stock 15" Sendel wheels, one (1) 15" steel spare wheel & GY Marathon tires after the new wheels/tires re installed. They have under 3500 miles use

For the new Michelin LT225/75R16 115/112R E tire, here are pressure vs loads from the Michelin table. I use 82 psi for a 2,500 rating whereas it was 73 psi in the prior tire.:

50 psi - 1765
55 psi - 1875
60 psi - 1995
65 psi - 2150
70 psi - 2220
75 psi - 2330
80 psi - 2470
90 psi - 2680

A 25 thru 28 foot Airstrem has a 3,800 pound axle rating. So the minimum tire rating needs to exceed 1,900 pounds per tire. A 20% load safety margin is 2,280 pounds or 72 psi. A 30% safety margin is 2,470 pounds or 80psi.

I know the actual axle loads on our 2014 31' Classic that has 5,000 pound axles.

So I use 2,500 pounds as target load rating.

Following this thread with deep interest as presently been agonizing over the options but ready to update factory 15" filiformed Sendels (or go with HWT HiSpec modulars for improved corrosion resistance) to new set 16" rims and likely the Michelin Agillis Crossclimates. Also, appreciate learning of this potential new standard upgrade to the LTX Defender from others more knowledgeable on a same path.

A 16" rim with the Agillis was also recommended yesterday speaking with the mighty Vinnie (North Bay Airstream) who sees it all and further indicating a potential Agillis 7 years of life (YMMV) compared to likely 3.5 yrs with the GYE.

Further stated keep at 65PSI and 110ft lb torque and you're good to go !

So...gentlemen after the months from your Agillis Cross Climate upgrades and hopefully some AS miles on them, how would you rate them vs the prior LTX Defenders ?

Other than an increase in load capacity at different pressures and different logo on the sidewalls, no difference in towing. Inflate the 15” tires on the 23D to 44 psi (same as before) and the 16” tires on the Classic to 75 psi up from 72/73 because it is easier to set.

OK, pulled the trigger and another down for the “new” standard. 5) new 16” Sendels and fresh Michelin Agillis !

Dealer Note: A reputable local dealer provided both and will mount together. We originally asked “please DO NOT balance them until we arrive (having screw on TPMS caps to add to the equation) which manager kindly agreed to same morning.

Arriving to pick up, manager says “ hmmm we already balanced them and being a (trailer) tire, no concern whatsoever with adding the TPMS later” competing the transaction getting us out the door.

Drove home to mount and concerned what he said....plus noticed only “one” rim having significant weights added. No weights on the other 4 rims.

Drove back to dealer 12 miles and nicely insisted that we do a rebalance check “with” the TPMS as requested being our internal rivets will not be forgiving.
(Also really want to VERIFY for ourself a tight and tight balancing job considering).

Watching over pleasant young tech, ran a each tire rebalance... first without, then with the TPMS cap noticing every tire was off Nor correct to begin with ! Even adding the TPMS threw it further off @ 2.5 oz.
This is what we accurately set weights to. Whew !

Summary: By others on forum stating various dealer experiences or innocent oversights, now glad to have VERIFIED our desired results....vs wondering for next many miles about any vibrations.......

Vantair... Michelin tires have performed well for me on the 27 foot. They also performed well on the 25 foot. Decades on my vehicles.

Goodyear... the Endurance may be a very good trailer tire. I would hope it is an EXCELLENT ST tire. It would be difficult to have a later New and Improved ST tire, if not.

I have had no problems with Michelin's previous 16 inch tires. Michelin has had no problems discussed anywhere with the 'Agilis' named 16 inch tires.

A reliable Michelin tire with a name change has also been reliable.

A unreliable tire with a name change... BETTER be.

A consumer that has been bitten by the 14" Marathon tire with side bubbles or a blowout, coming apart while towing, tire punctures frequently... and the Tire Dealer giving the reeason you "Overloaded Your Trailer". Very thin rubber on the road in my opinion. The Endurance appears to be much improved over my 14 inch Marathons.

The later 23 foot Airstreams have 15" tires now. GOOD NEWS. Great sized trailer with E Rated tires. Time will tell.

If Goodyears are improved... so will their Brand. I hope this is the case and it will serve those who use them for many years.

We are doing the 15-16" upgrade on our newly acquired "barn-find" 2014 Classic 27FB that still has original OEM Marathons (nipples still attached).

Defenders were still an option via Discount Tire however the newer Agilis CrossClimates were slightly less expensive after $70 rebate. Uve always lived on the edge regarding new versions and haven't been bitten so far (knock on wood, or rubber lol)

In Billings,mt..Costco will not cover any warranty if you buy them here ..no warranty,.michelin is out of the picture because Costco buys the tires and puts the warranty on them....if this set doesn’t work out..I will go back to 15” gy endurance..and change every 2-3 years and the cost/ mile may be cheaper..

You are correct. Costco will mount the tires onto the wheels and balance those intended for a trailer. I brought the wheels into the Service Center and they installed the tires. They tell you up front about the trailer.

Some may say they are going onto a 1968 tricked out Ford Bronco that you are rebuilding.

I like the discount at Costco when Michelins are being advertised. Also getting money back if you use the Costco Executive Credit Card (Business option for $120 annually) for purchases and Fuel. Cheapest fuel around, always. Then get 2% back on tire purchases and 4% back on fuel. (Up to $2,500 a quarter.) When we max out, the percentage is reduced. Then we use... ho ho ho... our second card from our Investment Banking card with similar options. With this Executive option there is another 2% rebate for purchases. (Check Costco. Nancy knows the numbers and the benefits versus... cost.)

Kalispell, Montana has a Costco, as well.

Although... I have NEVER needed an adjustment or had a Michelin tire fail.

That said... Road Hazard... is another thing. If I had the sidewall punctured and not repairable, I would bring the tire and wheel into Costco and see what happens.

Nancy and I are very frugal. She crunches and works the numbers. I am the gambler (former 'Gaming' dealer and player Instructor, business owner) and crunch the Odds. Costco are everywhere and if we have a problem, we can find them and no doubt be satisifed they delivered what we have always expected.

If I am such a poor driver to curb and sideswipe obstacles against the sidewalls... why should I complain? A major issue for some trailer owners and RV's.

If the Goodyear Endurance E Rated tires hold up... then they EARNED the business. For now... with 16 inch wheels... I am 'Gone With the Wind' and possibly full of it, as well. There... I said it.
