Maxxis ST225 75 R15 Tires
After a "general search" of the internet for possible links to Maxxis tires being used on Airstream Trailers and finding none here's my question.
I have a 22FB Sport Bambi 2016 model and I am getting un-comfortable with the GY Marathon tires. I don't have the time, energy nor money to deal with the aftermath of a GY tire failure.
After talking with local resources and personal research I am leaning hard towards the Maxxis tires. The GY is a 5 ply whereas the Maxxis is 10 ply. All the tire specs are better with the Maxxis tire....load rating, etc.
I don't feel the need to change out my rims to a larger size, so that is out of the question.
Any one using this tire as a replacement for the Gy's?
Comments welcome.
Happy New Year Everyone!

I had considered switching from GYM to Maxxis ST tires on our trailer as I had heard good reports about them.
In the end, I did not,
(a) Because I could not source any Maxxis tires locally
(b) I was hearing a lot of good reports about the Michelin LT tires at the time
So in the end I did go the 16" Michelin LT route for our 31 ft trailer.
I wanted to mention though that as an alternative to 16" Michelin LT's it might be possible on your size trailer to use a 15" Michelin if you are interested.
I only had to go to the 16" on ours to get the required load rating. I don't know if that would apply in your case. might be worth checking if that is at all of interest to you - unless you already know if it is an option or not.
Even on my trailer, when I spoke to someone at CanAm RV about tires, it was suggested to me that I could use the 15" Michelin LT.
But when I looked at the Michelin load charts it did not seem adequate for our trailer so I did end up changing wheel size for the larger 16" tire.
Brian.

I have had 4 of these (Series E) on my ATC Kayak/Bicycle Trailer (7,000 lb capacity Motorcycle trailer) since 2011. (Just about time for a new pair.) I have put over 40k on them, much of that during hot summer days in California, Neveda and Utah. Can drive at 65mph in 90F-100F for hours, with 6,000 load, with no problem.

I just replaced the original GYM's on our 2013 25' FC with a set of the Maxxis but have not yet gone on a trip to try them. Got an excellent deal online and had them mounted on the wheels at my local tire dealer, taking two wheels at a time to them so that I didn't have to take the trailer to the dealer. I'm hoping they give somewhat better service than the GYM's which gave no problems at all until showing signs of imminent tread separation when they aged to about 4.5 years.

I have a set. I bought them (and the rims) from a fellow Airstreamer when they were about 4 years old. They are D load. Now they're almost 6 years old. I've gone about 3500 miles in the last 2 years. I had a leak at the valve and the guy at America's Tire commented how good they looked for being almost 6 years old. For safety reasons I plan on replacing them with another set of Maxxis.

I replaced my Goodyear Marathon tires with Maxxis M8008 Load Range E three years ago.
The only problem was the steel Dexstar wheels which sprung a small leak at 80 psi. Quickly detected by my PressurePro TPMS system,
Replaced the wheels with 15" Sendel wheels. No problems with the tires at all.

Rpatrick16, in the search drop down just below your name, then in the search forums you can type in maxxi. I just did that and apparently I had searched previously for maxxis carlisle as it popped into the text box. You'll find a number of forums threads.
I too am considering the replacement of the GYM’s and prefer to stay with 15's. My research offered the Michelin's, Maxxis, Carlisle and Nokian's. I can’t locate a 15” Michelin LT in our size and load requirements and the P rated math 15's doesn't work for our 20. At this time I‘m trying not to follow those who have jumped to Michelin Defender series LTX LT225/75R16 115/112R (2680 lbs) requiring new 16” rims.
My recollection of the research is that that some folks really like the Maxxis's & Carlisle's but there seemed to be a recurring theme of blowouts but very good warranty replacement. Personally I have scratched both off my list. I hadn't heard much of the Nokians (Nokian Rotiiva AT All Season LT235/75R/15 116/113S LR E (2760lbs) but the more I research, I find that feedback is positive and that many have used them on both trailers and trucks for years. That’s where I‘m heading for now. The
Michelin Defender series LTX LT225/75R16 115/112R (2680 lbs) are my plan B
This is what got me thinking about the Nokians....available at Discount tires and WM online (for about $103 mounted, bal'd and metal stems)

Re my per wheel math as it applies to our 20

A whole lot of info but start at post 87 by Phoenix…drop down to “Anyway, later, back in Phoenix”. This entire thread contains a lot of info re ST vs LT as well as PSI/Load Chart discussion that to me was very educational.

Just about 2 and 1/2 years ago I put Maxxis M8008, Load E on our Safari. Have driven just a little over 12,000 miles. So far no problems.

Just my honest opinion, but...
Switching from one brand ST tire to another brand ST tire isn't really accomplishing anything.
I've had bad luck with several different brands of ST tires.
The real improvement is switching from 15" LT tires to 16" wheels and LT tires.

I switched from Goodyear Marathons to Maxxis M8008 five years ago and have put close to 5000 miles on these D load tires. They are great tires and will be replaced with the same Maxxis ST tires when it comes time to replace them.

Late last year I bought a 2016 FC 27 FB & immediately replaced the Goodyears with Maxxis E-rateds. So far 15K miles without any problem.
The Maxxis tires are on Amazon at $124 w/free shipping:
https://www.amazon.com/Maxxis-M8008-...5+75+15+10+ply
I bought them elsewhere, but with shipping, the set came to around $480. It cost me $70 to have them installed on the rims & balanced, so I have around $550 in them.
I sold the Goodyears on Craigslist for $300.
Net cost of replacement: $250.

It will beat the crap out of your AS. Go to Michelins or something similar.

Maxxis ST225 75 R15 Tires
Went to the E rated Maxxis 8008 ST's after I had a slipped belt with the Marathons after 3 seasons of use. Had 2 tires with slipped belt failure on the front axle after the first trip of season 4 use of the Maxxis. Starting season 5 of use with my 16" Michelin LT's.
I have no confidence in any ST tire lasting more than 2.5 years on my heavy 30' Classic slide out.

Bought Maxxis D load 15" for my 34' A/S 18 months ago & put on 3,000 miles with zero issues. I stay under 65 MPH. So far, I would do it again. The only problem I had was finding current / freshly built tires. All tires seemed to be nearly a year old. The D load works with 3 axles and if I went with E load in AZ they might have a tendency to heat up faster.
I found my best price, after shopping around, at a Firestone dealer who just ordered them from a local warehouse. Frankly, just a quick pass through for them.

We replaced our 3 year old Marathons with Maxxis after a blowout. Put about 7500 miles on them in 6 months before trading the 14 Classic 30 on a 16. We're very pleased and had much greater confidence vs. the Goodyears.

I installed ST225/75R-15/10 Gladiator QR25-TS Highway BW on our 25' A/S at Les Schwab Tires Store several years ago. Am very pleased with the change from Goodyear Marathons. The tires have nearly 20K miles without problem on mostly two-lane highways and lots of rough roads. Just my preference and experience.

I bought 4 Maxxis 8008 load range E this past summer on Amazon for $115 ea. They arrived three days later tax and shipping included. Had my local garage install them. The date stamp was only a few months old and no ripples on the sidewalls like the GYMs. My mechanic hated GYM's. Said he worked at a Goodyear tire center and they had to pick through them to find good ones. I drove cross country in November at 75 lbs pressure with no discernible change in ride or handling. So far I love them.

I installed Maxxis E rated 10 plys on my 25'AS. I put over 10,000 miles on them last summer in temps up to 111 degrees without a problem.

I installed Maxxis 8008 load range E on my Classic 28 this past summer. I also put on pressure/temperature sensors for extra safety. No problems. I had friends in the racing community that put 10s of thousands of miles on Maxxis with 10,000+ pound trailer loads with no problems.
