Lifespan of LT tires?

I currently have a set of five year old Goodyear Workhorse tires mounted on 16" steel rims, and they still look good.

I also have a new set of 16" alloy wheels which nearly match the original style from '79 and at some point I plan to have Maxis or Marathons mounted on those, and put those on the trailer for a classic look.

In a few months I have a 900 mile trip planned. If I currently had radial trailer tires on my Airstream I know it would be a smart move to get a new set before hitting the road. However, I am not sure of the lifespan of light truck tires when used on a trailer.

FYI, whenever those Workhorse tires need replacing, I do plan to hang onto the old 16" steel rims and put new Workhorse tires on them for any super long trips.

Any comments on the current quality of GYM and Maxi are welcome.

Useful like of your Workhorses is a little more than six years. I go 8 to 10 on automotive tires or until there is checking. I inherited a 15 year old vehicle with Michelin tires. They looked new but the vehicle had been garaged all of its life. Automotive or LT tires have a pretty easy life on an AS assuming they are not overloaded as most of us loaf along at 65 mph. Heat and speed is what may cause a marginal tire to blow out.
When you replace tires, I would avoid Marathons and other ST tires like the plague. In hot weather towing, I had serial blowouts with them, even when properly inflated and towed under 65. I would rather tow with 15 year old Workhorses than new ST tires.
