Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E

Has anyone used this brand of tire on your Airstream. I have read several reviews on how well they have handled on campers and trailers. Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E sold by E-Trailer. Don't have the extra funds to go by 16" wheels and new Michelin tires, not worried about additional height. Thanks

Alternative

It received and email from Andy at Canam in Canada. He recommended not using E load range tires. Rough ride for contents and trailer.

I just put 235-75-15 Michelin Defenders on our new 30' FC bunk. 50 PSI of pressure. I did not want to spend the money for new 16" rims either. around $550 for tires from Tire Rack. $200 for Centramatic balancers. $35 to get them mounted. I should be good for many years. Selling new Marathons on Crags List. Should list them here too.

On our first trip right now. They seem to ride great.

My opinion would be to stay with the marathons, or Michelin defenders 235's at least Home Depot doesnt sell them...where do these new mouse traps come from..

There are several brands of tires in the 235/75/15 XL 109 service rated size. Michelins, Cooper, Nokian, General, etc.... all make a 235/75/15 XL 109 service rated tire. Much different price point for each. Do a search - just make sure you get a tire with a least a 109 service rating.

If you were to make the switch to 16" wheels and LT tires, the tires don't necessarily have to be Michelin tires.
You could get a less expensive tire like the Firestone TransForce LT.

I have no experience with Karrier tires, although like you, I didn't want to spend the $$$ to switch to 16" rims. Consequently, I bought & installed Maxxis E-rated tires, which so far have gone 15K miles without a problem.

Please do not push Marathons !
They are an accident waiting to happen. Air Stream should discontinue installing them.
There have been endless threads on this subject and the litany of Marathon tire thread separation issues are endless.

There is another tire link from last night.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f295...ms+-+Emails%29

The Karrier's and their specs caught my attention until I started to research and found this website. No warranties expressed or implied. I'm passing on the Karrier's

http://www.vehicletire.com/Complaint...rier+ST+Radial

My plan for now is the Nokian's (Nokian Rotiiva AT All Season LT235/75R/15 116/113S LR E (2760lbs). Note have a Bambi and need the higher load rating. As I noted in the above thread, post #7 the reviews and comments on the Nokians have been positive, I can keep the OEM 15" T02's. My only argument against the Michelin's (for my rig LTX LT225/75R16 115/112R2680 lbs) is the cost for new rims. They are as everyone has well documented and discussed, a great tire option.

Like others I have no experience with the Karrier brand, but I have run Good Year Marathon ST load range D tires on my 26' for many years and miles with no problems. I strongly recommend using ST tires if you plan any rough road travel, tight turns forward and especially tight turns while backing as the side walls are built stronger than LT or touring tires for just such use. On the other hand if you plan to tow your trailer faster than 65mph go with the Michelins or other good LT tires as STs are restricted to that speed.

What ever tire you might want to use, go on the manufacturers web site for technical information as to load vs pressure and other pertinent info. There is much bias for some reason on this forum regarding tires so do your research and do not rely too heavily on such comments you might find that say this or that tire is no good.

Karrier Tires

Thanks to everyone on my tire issue. I have talked to drivers that pull trailers that haul different types of equipment coast to coast this week and most use 10 ply E rated 15" with their fancy aluminum wheels due to road conditions and temps. So I guess I will look at the Maxxis tires due to the positive post I have read on this Forum. My 15" rims are new and don't plan on buying new 16" rims since these were a Christmas present from my kids. If I need height I would get the Dexter lift kit, a whole lot cheaper than 16" tires and wheels. Don't want tires that don't have a warranty or buy some that the warranty gets voided for putting them on Airstreams. Thanks so much and have a Happy New Year

Nationwide, I would hazard that more AS run on GYMs than anything. There are
those that have strong opinions about tires (Michelin) or wheels (Sendels? Never heard of them before the Forum). Maxxis and Carlisle (I use these on the Bambi)are both good, and I have 4 year old GYMs on a 23d we just acquired. My random survey of attendants at Balloon Fiesta this past year showed essentially an equal percentage of all the aforementioned, plus a few outliers.

I talked to my tire store guy this morning about Maxxis tires while putting tires on wife's car and he can't get them but he told me he has been selling a lot of Firestone Transforce LT 235/75R/15 HT 10ply tires for all type of trailers from campers to livestock trailers. He told me to see if they will fit in the fender well. May look at that after I check with a few that run them. Thanks for the info.

I considered that particular tire for my trailer from the local tire store.
I ultimately decided that I would be able to purchase 16" tires longer into the future.
15" LT tires are getting fewer and farther in between.
I was also concerned about the aspect ratio- whether a wider tire would fit-
Honestly, if I hadn't already purchased the 16" wheels I would have tried the TransForce 15".
