If you think your tires are running cooler than the ambient air temperature you may not be measuring the temperature accurately. There's nothing that would keep them cooler than the surrounding air and lots of things that would heat them up like the road surface, sunlight and flexing as they roll down the road. I find that my LTX Michelins (the 15" ones that work great for my tandem-axle vintage trailers) run just a little over ambient temp when running down the highway, much cooler than the STs I had before.

Tire temps taken with a racing quality infrared pyrometer on Michelin LTX M/S 2 LT225/75 16Es on SenDel T02s last week in ambient temps of 88-91F on a reasonably smooth 80 mile stretch of highway, immediately after stopping. 80 psi cold.

Truck LF 112 RF 109. Truck LR 114 RR 113. Single axle 2013 Bambi 19. LR 117 RR 117.

The Dodge Ram's computer had it's tires at 44-45 psi hot.

I have been running E-rated ST tires at 70#. I think I'll start out at 70# with the 16" Michelins and see how the 28 tows at that pressure.

A friend that went the LT route claims a small, but measurable, increase in fuel mileage over his former E-rated Carlisle ST tires along with great handling.

After Southwest Wheel totally screwed my wheel order up, I ordered elsewhere and the rims should arrive here Thursday by Fedex. I reordered from Trailer-Wheels.com in LA and I'm impressed with their service. They didn't have the exact wheels I ordered, though they were still on their website. They called me and offered a nicer wheel at a lower price for my trouble.

We just got home after a 2,000 mile trip and have a total of around 4,500 miles on our new Michaelin 16" MS-2's and they still look brand new. I also have the Centramatics on the AS and my TV. Seem to be working on both. Time will tell, but my monitoring system shows no temp or pressure issues.

Apparently all ST trailer tires are bad about tread separation.
I nipped it in the bud.
I joined the LT truck tire movement, too.

Hi from AZ. . . previous comments not withstanding, 2 ASs with GYMs, not a single problem in nearly 35k miles, Current AS just went 11,400 thru the rough roads of Western Canada & Alaska on a set of new Carlisle trailer tires without a problem ! Had a blow out on a Michelin on my TV ! just sayin', regards, Craig
