What about the GYM? Is there anything better for a 2005 19' Safari?

my trailer is an 'o6 and I had no idea how the tires had been used, but inspection of the man. date revealed '05, so I just replaced all five tires with GYMs.

If the trailer is garage kept when not in use, does that make a difference on when to replace tires? We've already replaced all of ours after a blowout last December (right at about five years), but just wondering for next time.

Our local Discount Tire and Costco both recently recommended 6 years max on tires (if I recall correctly), based on Michelin's recommendation (I don't think they honor warranty claims after 6 years).

Thanks for all the feedback

Again, thanks everyone for the very cogent feedback. I just got back from the tire store and put ST225/75R-15 Maxxix M8008 load rated E on all 5 wheels. Ended paying $128/tire, which included install, though I paid a bit extra to have all 5 tires balanced and dispose of the old tires. Happy to have it done locally and seemed to run a bit smoother on the way home... This board is great and I look forward to running into some of you all at Airstream events down the road. All the best.

tsupler.... You noted that you filled your tires to 60PSI. The recommended pressure for the Goodyear ST225/75 R15 is 65 PSI. The ST225/75 R15 is rated for 2,540 lb load at 65 PSI. At 60 PSI the tire's load rating drops 160 lbs to 2,380 lbs. By dropping the pressure 5 PSI you have reduced the load capacity by 6.3% and reduced the total load capacity of four tires by 640 lb. I don't think the 5 PSI difference was the reason for your problem but you should keep in mind the reduction in load capacity by not running at the rated pressure. A copy of Goodyear's Tire Inflation Document is attached.
