info concerning Nokian Rotiva 235/75/15 light truck tire
I will be replacing my GYM"s this year with only 10,000 miles on them.
Too many people reporting problems with them.
Would love to upgrade to michelin LT 16 inch, however the cost of the upgrade is prohibitive.Tires, wheels, steel valves, tpms well in excess of $2000.
Heard of people using the Nokian and would like to hear from fellow airstreamers their personal experiences with this tire, and from some of the tire experts that post on this subject as well.
Pros and cons .
Does anyone know what the maximum inflation pressure that stock wheels on a 2017 international 30 is?

TPMS is a wonderful "optional" tool, but if you're going to get it, you would need to purchase with either 15" or 16" tires. Adding that amount into the cost of upgrading is a false expense for comparison. If you already have TPMS, most, if not all, should work as well with 16" as 15". So, reduce your cost by around $400, or however much the TPMS of your choice costs, to get a true cost of the upgrade. Also, you can sell your current tires and wheels for something, even if it's only $50 per unit, so you can deduct that from your final cost.
With all that in mind, and assuming you factored the cost of the TPMS into the upgrade, and didn't deduct the selling of your old tires/wheels, your cost to upgrade would be $2000-$400-$200, or $1400. How much are these Nokian tires you found, installed and balanced? For the sake of argument, we can assume roughly $100 per tire, so remove that amount also from your cost of upgrade. Your upgrade now costs you $1000. Still a lot, but maybe not so cost prohibitive as you originally thought.

Just an FYI:
Unlike tires, wheels are NOT required to have max pressure or max load stamped on them. Do not be surprised when you don't find those.
Why? In conversations when several wheel engineers, the consensus is that wheels are designed to the max load based on the bolt holes. Those bolt holes govern what type of vehicle the wheel fits and, therefore, the potential max load.
They also kind of, sort of said that the max pressure isn't considered in the design. That load is way, way more important - to the point where the max pressure is kind of, sort of ignored.

Just throw on some of the new 15” Goodyear endurance tires and be done. I had Michelins on my last trailer with 16” sendal rims... but on my current trailer I went with the new endurance tires. They are a different animal as compared to the GYM.

I agree. I have had GYM original tires and just changed them out after 29,000 miles with no problems. Switched to the GY Endurance. No need to remove brand new15" wheels and tires based upon someone else's misfortune or tire use to replace with 16" rims and Michelins.
The Nokians sounded tempting. They performed well on my Touareg, but they have a softer performance compound and seemed to wear fast (23K). Will wait to hear reports from those who use them after a few years.

I bought four (4) Michelin LT225/75R16 mounted and balanced on aluminum Ultra Type 62 3200 lb. trailer wheels, with new lug nuts, delivered, for $1,267.54 from Tire Rack.
This the fourth or fifth set of tires I have purchase from Tire Rack this way. They do as good a job of balancing as you could hope to get anywhere. And with the volume they sell you can be comfortable the your new tires really are new. And no, I don't work for them.

All wheels must meet DOT ratings and should have a stamp indicating they meet those standards so PSI isn’t a concern for the rim but All tires are rated at wieght capacity and max PSI.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger and was originally planning on the Nokians. One thing I'm looking at is the spare and how the Nokians which are about 1/2" in dia and 1/2" in profile wider then the GYM/GYE, will fit in the spare hanger. On our 20' we have plenty of room in the wheel wells.
At Wally's (ship to store) the Nokians are pretty reasonable at $106 per and the GYE at Discount Tire (America's Tire) are $121. I'm starting to lean towards the GYE's because 1) I know the spare will fit and 2) the replacement availability is superior. The Nokians simply aren't offered in as many places if replacement on the road is needed.
The one thing I do like about the Nokians is the tread...certainly the tire has some meat, while the GYE look a little thin. However all the dealers I've talked to give good reviews on the GYE's

Last May, I’ve replaced GYM on my 25FC with Nokian LT235/75 R15 at a Discount Tire. They didn’t have this in stock. But they happily ordered them for me. Four tires costed me $469.08. And total cost including installation, lifetime spin balancing, and tax was $588.64. I was able to sell GYM for $200. This Finland made tires are not known well in this country. After I researched a bit, I decided to give it a try. It hasn’t been long enough to say that this is comparable to any other brand. But so far it worked very well. The optimum pressure was 80 psi. And I didn’t have to change the wheels.

We replaced our GYM with the GY Endurance. Last season they were great. We'll see what the future holds. All their numbers on the tires are what I wanted - increased psi - increased speed rating - increased plys.

Actually wheels are both weight and pressure limited. Here is the wheel information on the 15" and 16" SenDel wheels in installed on our 2015 23D International Serenity (upgrade from 14" GYM tires and factory wheels) and our 2014 31' Classic (upgrade from 15" GYM and factory wheels).
We used the 15" T03-56545BM wheel on the 23D as we retained the 10" brake system that had the five bolt lug pattern.
The 16" T03-66655BM wheel is the one installed by Airstream on nearly all of the Eddie Bauer models and 2015 to 1017 Classic models.

I own nokians ,first on my 2015 25 fc, now on 2017 28 fc. Awesome, been to Florida 2 times from the West coast. $500 on simply tire. They are now being made in Tennessee or Kentucky, or somewheres around there. They are not only the best tire out for the money but also for durability. 5 star rating see my previous reviews

What TPMS system are you talking about? I was not aware of the need to match wheel size to the screw-on TPM sensor.
Also re Nokian. DOn't forget that if you select passenger type rather than LT type you will need to de-rate the tire load capacity.

Good to know. I may have confused some info that led me to believe some were talking about "44 psi" tires which would be P type.
