Swapped out GYM stock tires as soon as I got the three different Airstreams to their storage facility.

I carried in two at a time and CostCo installed the new 15” Michelin’s on the old rims. Trailer was NOT on their premises.

I ordered the 16” SenDel Wheels and Dill 1506-453 TOMS at a local Mesa Discount Tire. Took new wheels and TPMS toCostCo where they installed 16” Michelin tireson the new wheels. I swapped them on the trailer myself.

Discount tires ordered both 15” SenDel wheels and 15” Michelin tires with Dill TPMS and mountedthem. I took them with from Ohoenix to New Jersey and put them on the new 23D on the dealer lot.

Costco installed Michelin Defender LTX tires on new wheels I brought in...Airstream puts Michelin tires on some models, so they have to be more than capable of working for your Airstream...

Bought the GYEs right before the news broke about their cover up of the GYMs. Oh well, it’s too late to take them off to try and punish GY. Then I bought some Anderson levelers! He goes and defaces a national monument.
I hate to say this, but the last thing I bought was an iPhone 8. If you have apple stock, I’d unload it fast!

Especially in the current political climate...if I were the Chinese, I'd shutter Apple factories and see how fast the you know what hits the fan.

I think I am going with the Michelin Defenders. I think you should use one of the 2 choices you listed with the 15" wheels.

225/75/15. Never again

We ve been using 205/90R15 ST radials tires and 700-15 biased plymon our Airstream. Remember GYM have speed rating of up to 65, that’s for an hour or more
Not only 209/90/15 are taller than the 225’s for more ground clearance, Load Ranfe LR has speed rating of 75 mph. ( Not that we drive that fast). And the biggest item, on our ‘62 Overlander and ‘90 Squarestream these tires even at speed, don’t generate as much heat, as the 225 and 235 radials generate.

Heat generation is primarily the result of Speed & Load/Inflation. Other factors can include the use of the expensive compound, reduced thickness tread and similar construction features that are out of our control.

We drivers have complete control on the Speed/Load/Inflation factors.

Technically it would be better if all tires had at least a 15% margin on load. We need to remember that road slant & crown and curves along with significant side load from wind can easily result in overloading tires that were measured on a level scale. Multi-axle trailers should shoot for a 25% load margin.

Speed rating. We should think of this like the engine red-line. Everyone seems to understand that running faster than red line will shorten engine life but that doesn't mean that 5,900 on a 6,000 redline is good to run for hours on end.
The high-speed test is a 30-minute step speed test of a brand new tire on a smooth test wheel. No potholes or curb damage. All that is needed to "pass" the test is to meet the target speed and not come apart. The tire is scrap after the test.

LT tires would be my first choice in any application where heavy loading was required. Why do so many think that there is some magic engineering available to go into ST tires that allow them to suppost10% to 20% more load than an LT? The Load formulas used today are the same ones used in 1969 when the ST tires were limited to 65 MAX (red-line).

I would be very interested to hear an answer from the engineers at the companies that make ST type tires why they were able to suddenly increase the speed rating from 65 to 75, 87 or even 99 on their ST type tires If they have some new materials why don't they put those same materials in LT tires and increase the load capacity of LT tires to be the same as or closer to the loads seen claimed for ST type tires.

Sorry I just don't buy the new claimed high speed capabilities of ST type tires.

GYE tires brought to us by the same company that hid defective RV tire reports and details that resulted in some folks dying. Putting lipstick on a .... is still a ....

Twenty one tires in nine years. One blow out and all the rest tread seperation. GYM, Carlisle, and Maxxis. Airstream recommended Michelin LTs. And, Discount sold me the warrantees knowing they were sold by Airstream. No more tire failures. Large trailer owners beware, ST tires are not durable enough for your loads.
