High profile tires for 73 Overlander?

Hey,

I have a 73 overlander that is 27'. The tires are dry rotted such that I can't determine the size. I also don't see a tire size listed in the manual.

My question is what is the standard size trailer tire for this trailer?

My second question is whether there is any leeway on tire sizes to allow for a higher than normal tire wall i.e. high profile tire as opposed to low profile. The reason being we have put a gravel parking pad at the end of our driveway. In order to get it up the driveway, I must back it up an incline with a relatively sharp angle as driveways go. I did get it up the driveway, but I had to lay boards down on the driveway and drive over them to increase the distance between the bottom of the trailer and the driveway. Otherwise it scraped on the way up. I'd prefer not to have to do this again.

Before you do this, did you consider dropping your tongue a few inches? For instance, did you remove the spring bars from your equalizer hitch before backing up? It might be just enough to make the difference. Just a thought.

The correct tire size is 700X15

Check your axles as well. The torsion arms should slightly point down with a loaded trailer. Maybe your suspension has sagged.
A search in the axle forum will answer those questions.

A 7x15 bias ply tire is about as tall as they come. It was original equipment on your trailer. You should have load range D installed.

Yes, I have an adjustable hitch that uses a socket to lower. I brought it all the way down and it still dragged. Thanks!
