Goodyear Marathon Separation

The 225/75-15 LRD Marathons on my Excella were purchased by the previous owner in April 2004. They have about 10,000 miles on them.

I've had a pesky leak in one of my tire since I bought the trailer. Since new valve stems didn't cure the problem I removed the offending tire & wheel and took it to my local Les Schwab to have it fixed. Since I found a nail in the center of the tread I thought it was a "no-brainer".

When I returned 3 hours later to pick up my tire they told me that it was seperating and did not repair it. They marked the section of the tire with chaulk and it's very obvious.

I called a local Goodyear dealer and asked about getting the tire replaced under warranty. What the dealer told me is that it has to be done during the week so that he could call Goodyear in Akron, OH and get an OK to replace the tire.

Depending on what happens on Monday I may ask the Goodyear dealer to inspect and possible replace my other 3 Marathons. I did a quick inspection of the sidewalls and found bulges similar to the affected area on the bad tire.

I'll report back next week with the outcome.

Replacement

I took the tire to a Goodyear dealer this morning. The manager took one look at it, measured the tread depth, and entered it in the computer for replacement. The pro-rated cost was $38.00, a bit over $46.00 out the door mounted and balanced. Not too bad considering that I can buy the exact same tire new from Tire Rack for $81.00, plus mounting and balancing of course.

I plan to closely inspect my other 3 Marathons and replace them as necessary. Not how I prefer to spend my spare time but it's far preferable to a blow-out.

Your other 3 tires had bulges and they were not replaced? Did you ask them to?

Steve,
I had the same problems see my previous post
http://www.airforums.com/forum...ise-25685.html

I had all four tires replaced and pro-rated. If you see any bulge out get them replaced.

I don't know about the other 3 tires. The problems with the 1st tire came up in the course of getting it repaired. When I install the new tire on my trailer I will take any of the other tires to the dealer and have them replaced if necessary.

Update

I finially found the time to install my new tire and inspect the others.
I only found 1 more tire in need of replacement out of the 3 remaining originals. The Goodyear dealer replaced it no questions asked.

I'm out $118.42 (total) for the 2 prorated tires mounted and balanced. I would have spent well over $200 for 2 new tires from Tire Rack by the time you add shipping, mounting, & balancing. Sounds OK until you realize my tires still had 8/32nd of tread and should have been good for at least one more year before replacement.
