Cool Goodyear Marathon "C" out of production

Went everywhere in the Twin Cities Region of Minnesota looking for a set of four Marathon 225/75/15R LRC tires to use on my stock steel wheels.

The Cordovan bias plies I drove 1400 miles home on were really cracking badly from UV and ozone. I bead blasted my wheels, primed and painted them but couldn't find my new tires!

- Missed purchasing them at Sam's Club in April and they've been unavailable for months now.

- Goodyear retail location say its out of production and inventory shows ONE on the warehouse, likely a continuous "1" to honor warranties with but only one even when local manager called the warehouse.

- Goodyear has shifted the production of load range "C" to one of their private label brands (they just dropped 2/3rd of their private label lines too) and like the Marathons their private label is made in Canada, at least for us in the Midwest.

- Found my set of four at tirerack.com for 88.75 each delivered, two-day delivery had them here before noon on second day. Tires had matching DOT date codes of 51st week of 2005. I am ordering a spare as I write this.

Just a friendly note - if you want a spare tire to match your existing Goodyears or stash a set away now is the time to visit tirerack...

I just got 6 load range 'D' from Sam's Club (special order online) in CA. for $82.58/ ea. It took about 8-10 days for delivery to the store but they are fresh 22/06 DOT numbers.

Correct on the towmaster = marathon .Ive talked to the tech guys at
greenball tire in long beach Ca .I have used the towmaster bias 700-15
before and they worked great. The marathons were made on the same production line ,just had a different labeling on them .Those towmaster
tires are pretty standard tires for boat trailers sold at marine stores .

Yes, but they're bias ply, and the Marathons are radial tires.

Good to know they are similar; but is warranty voided when mixing makes of tires on same axle? Who honors Tow Master warranties? Goodyears' weather cracking warranty is honored to four years, how is that compared to Tow Master?

I've run Goodyears for 250,000 miles and after getting excellent warranty service with 'Z' speed rated tires & the ATS series on my TV I'll choose them just to have their dealer network available. Nothing like being in trouble in great beyond Montanna at 4pm on a Saturday and having name-brand service and parts availble.

July 2004 - The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company recently produced and delivered the one millionth Towmaster Radial STTM tire for its customer, Greenball Corporation, a leading marketer of specialty tires for applications such as trailers, mobile homes, ATVs, golf carts and lawn equipment.

Officials of both companies celebrated the achievement that marked a milestone for the business relationship the two have shared since December 1996. Goodyear produces for Greenball its Towmaster Radial ST line of trailer tires, manufacturing the tires in Canada and New Zealand.

"This has been a terrific relationship for the two companies, and hitting the million mark in a relatively short time in a niche segment shows evidence that Greenball is a successful player in the specialty tire business," said Tom Gravalos, Goodyear’s director of key accounts.
Goodyear makes six sizes of the Towmaster Radial ST trailer tire line for Greenball.

Greenball began operations in 1976 in Los Angeles, and has gradually grown its operations to include seven distribution centers and an expansion of its product line, which now includes the wide assortment of other specialty tires, along with trailer wheels.

Just bought a new spare and we matched the BTC brand to the Marathons that were on the trailer. Load range "D" 225 75R15s. About $80.

Just purchased a set of 4 ST225/75R-15 Goodyear Marathon Radial Trailer C rated from tirerack.

$76.00 each.

I have had very good luck with my Goodyear Marithons, had my current set just over 9 years, towed at 70 MPH, both in Michigan as well as many trips to Utah, Colorado, Arizona.

Hope the next set lasts a well.

Steve

Tow masters are Radials too

Uwe,
The Tow Masters come in Bias and Radials. Essentially the same as Marathons, readily available thruout US and Canada, waranteed and are, like Marathons, UV protected.

Hello uwe ,

I did forget to say that the bias ply is not the marathon equivelent .The towmaster bias ply is a good tire .The greenball co .makes the marathon
radial along side there own towmaster radial on the same line .

According to Goodyear distributors in California, the Marathon "C" is still in production.

Call Samaritan Tire, on Minnetonka Blvd. Ask for Frank.

He has three and can get a fourth. Cost is $105.98, which includes mounting, balancing, bead sealing, new stems, nitrogen fill and taxes.

Phone is 952 933-3363.

I took Andy's advice from Inland RV and will be putting Godyear Marathon 225/75/15 D rated on my 1973 31' Excello. I ordered them fro www.tirerack for $81 each plus shipping. If the axles are bad, I am considering changing to the duraflex with disc brakes. That would give years of worry free performance in this dream machine.

Nothing like safety to enjoy travelling the country with my small children.
