Goodyear Marathon, + 10psi to run 66-75 MPH?

I just found that GY says if you want to tow your trailer at speeds above 65
Just add 10psi to your max cold air pressure.
Anyone doing this ??

That does not sound wise. Goodyear says, eh? Will they put that in writing?

You may do that, however the increase is above the reocmmended inflation pressure for your load. not above the max pressure on the sidewall.

So if your recommended inflation is 55 psi for your load, then you can go up 10 psi to 65 psi, but you cannot go above 65 psi maximun cold inflation pressure.

No it is 10 + above max load psi

I am positive that you can add 10% to the sidewall max pressure on a LT tire. I am not sure about a ST tire? I don't run them so I don't have to be sure!

Not going to try to look it up again but I have seen the Goodyear information that said to pump them up to 75 psi for speeds above 65 mph. It is pretty old information.

No, I am not doing it. I would not do it. Neither pump them up to 75 or run faster than 65 with them.

But what do I know. I have a fairly light weight Airstream. (6400 lbs axle rating) I run P-XL tires on my Airstream at 50 psi and they are rated to a lot faster than I want to go.

Thats some old info, most good (not to be confused with goodyears) st rated tires have a speed rating on them. Mine have an M speed rating which is 81 mph but some go up to N which is 87 mph.

The gym already comes equipped with an auto explode feature why help accellerste that function by puffing it up more and then making it spin faster?

Here is the link to the letter from Goodyear. Nowhere does it say anything about inflating tires to 75 psi.

First of all GMT are junk tires, just about everyone on this forum agrees, now over inflating them is plain stupid, they blow out at 65psi @ higher pressure it will just be louder & quicker. Change them out to Maxxis E rated or Michelin LT tires.

Nobody is recommending inflation over 65 psi. Just 10 lbs over the recommended inflation for the weight of the trailer.

The AS sticker says inflate to 65psi on GMT, not depending on you weight.

AS didn't make these tires. Goodyear did. I would think GY knows more about it than AS.

It is my belief that the inflation pressure in the tables is the minimum pressure to support the stated load, not the maximum, and one can inflate up to the maximum pressure on the sidewall without negative effect on the tire. But like others have stated, I don't have to worry about this because I put on the 16" Michelins.

Goodyear doesn't know what load is placed on the tire, or what additional stresses (tandem axles, etc.) are imposed. Airstream does. Per FMVSS the vehicle manufacturer, not the tire manufacturer, is responsible for posting the required inflation for a specific tire on a specific vehicle.

IMHO, YMMV, etc.

Only if you want to trash your investment in the Airstream sooner and at a higher speed than the recommended 60 MPH towing speed.
