I just bought a 2018 27' Flying Cloud with GY Endurance tires. They are rated to maximums of 80# inflation and 2830# load. Now, the wierd part- although the trailer has a maximum gross weight of 7600# (1900# per tire), the tire placard says to inflate to 80#?! Given the fact that the maximum load the tires will experience with this trailer is 930# less than their maximum, I would have expected a lower pressure recommendation on the placard? I can't find pressure / load tables for the Endurance anywhere . . .

That's odd to me - but admittedly I'm not a tire expert. My 27 also with 7600 GVWR (and about 6000# at the scales with WD on) called for load range D ST tires at 65 psi (2540#/tire). That 80 is an E range and more than you likely need. I'd be tempt d to go to 65 psi but you may want to call the factory or your dealer to get better advice.

There are two tire engineers who post here at Airforums, named capriracer and tireman9. They can explain it better than I, but I will summarize what I think the main reason is. On a trailer with two or more axles, the tires fight each other as the trailer goes around corners. The phenomenon is called interply shear. This is hard on the tires and can shorten their life. Running the tires at higher pressure reduces the shear force.

Your input would be very helpful as for reasons beyond me I can't find any info on my present GYM....even when I go to a dealer. I'm beginning to believe that people just don't understand these things or for some reason....no body is willing to share their settings.

I have the 225 75r 15s on my 1970 Overlander and can tell you the 80lb maximum is way too high. Every divit makes it leave the ground !

Thanks VT Wanderer. We are in Burlington, VT. Newbies with a 2012 22' Sport. It has the original tires on it and the previous owner recommended we put new ones on before our spring travels. Have you done much research and what led you to the Endurance?

I checked online for reviews and articles. EVERY tire on the market had both positive and negative reviews. I was interested in Michelin LT tires at first because of so many positive comments from AS owners. I contacted the manufacturer and was informed that the LT is not designed trailer use. In 10 previous years I had GYM with no issues until a tire with 5 years and 50,000+ miles blew out as I was going faster than I should have been (70+) on a long downhill bend on an interstate. I knew that I should have changed them out before it actually happen. I believe that our VT weather - especially sitting idle all winter - cuts tire life. Most articles that I read advise changing tires every 5 years, as they can look good on the exterior, but most issues start on the interior. What attracted me to the GY Endurance was Load Range: E* - Max Load 2,830 lbs - Speed Rating 87 mph - Max Inflation 80 psi. This was the highest rating of ST (trailer) tire that I had found.

So far my GYE have been a success.
They don't leak down, haven't failed (knock on wood), and ride well.
I've been using 65 PSI.

I switched to 16" Michelin years ago. New ones about a year ago. However, am watching the GYE experiences here for next replacement consideration. I'll feel better with several years and people's actual historical experience.

I'll be putting GYEs on my 2014 FC when its time to replace. I may also be moving up to 16s if possible. So I'll need new wheels. Sigh....

My Endurance tires have been good so far. Although with my 27' Flying Cloud, the recommended inflation pressure is 80#, which is also the tire's maximum recommended pressure. I run them at 75#, just because I don't like being right on the edge . . . plus, I like the higher speed rating- that's an addition cushion as well.

Thinking out loud. If your gross weight is 7600 - 1000 tongue weight, or 6600# divided by 4 gives you a tire load of 1650#. Yes/No?

Goodyear's tire chart for the Endurance is the same as the Marathon. Not helpful.

I spent a good deal of time trying to find the magic number and concluded it doesn't exist. I use 65#. I could be wrong.

This makes sense to me. I'm in the process of switching from 14" GYM to 15" GYE. I'll have a large amount of overcapacity with the tire ratings. I would think they'd ride better at 65# than 80. Doubt it would effect gas mileage very much.

I'm also in VT (South Hero). I have a 2018 30' FC and it came with Endurance tires. My previous trailer was a 2004 25' Safari SS and the last 3 years I had 15" General LT tires on that.
We just got back this week from a 3200 mile trip south. We had crazy (cold) weather. Lows one morning at 8 degrees and only highs in the 60's for a couple of days. I kept and eye on the pressures and ran at 75 psi cold. Some roads were horribly potholed and I know that I hit a few. Especially Rte. 95 in South Carolina and Rte. 81 between Harrisburg and Scranton.
The tires survived fine. But, lots of loose stones so my new trailer got a divot in the alum. and a cracked front window guard. UGH!
