Gladiator Brand Tires

New (to me) 1999 motorhome Land Yacht 30' with following tires:

Gladiator
QR55-ST
DOT 25-524-/GT 1810
So manufactures in May 2010
Believe the tires are manufactured in China
Tread is very good; sidewalls appear fine to the eye

Any cautions or comments would be appreciated.

Most will say that if they were made 5 or 6 years ago they should be replaced no matter what they look like. I am not totally convinced of that, especially here in the NW where sun and ozone don't take the same toll on tires. But it would give you peace of mind to have new ones on as you have no idea how the PO treated them or inflated them. Replacing a Motorhome tire on the road is not fun or for the inexperienced. The rig is big and heavy and jacking it up alone is a project.

Wow! "New" tires ...

mine are 20 years old.

It towed okay home ~200 winding mountain road miles with a stretch of 50mph cross winds.

Now that all the systems work and the furnishings are functional, it's time to make it road worthy.

The next trip is about 1,200 miles so we're thinking new tires would be worth the investment since everything I've read about trailer tires says 7 years max.

We run Gladiator tires and have had very good performance, but the years bother me some. I like to replace tires every 4 years. Rather spend the money on tires instead of the deductible. Looks like a great motorhome, lucky you. We got the tires from the local Les Schwab tire center.

Mike,

The form of the DOT code is wrong. No slashes or dashes are ever used. So I am wondering if you have got that correct. It's possible you are looking at some other set of numbers that do NOT related to the DOT code and therefore the date of manufacture.

Wow, 20 year old tires! Talk about "borrowed time." I think you are seriously in default on that "loan!"

I think we're very lucky it made it home without mishap. We bought it about 6 weeks ago. Not certain how many POs, maybe 3, but it was in serious need of attention. The other day when I finally got around to looking at road worthiness, I was in even more shock. 20 year old tires ... wow!

Many thanks for those ghood comments. I need to revisit the DOT numbers on the tire to make sure of what I have.
