This is really what you want to do to balance your drums. Take them to a precision balance house and have them balanced dynamically down to 1/2 ounce/inch. This way you will only have to balance your wheel/tire mount and not have to worry about rotation if you ever rotate the tires on your trailer. What you see in the picture is lead poured in the drum cooling holes and then sealed in with epoxi. I had mine balanced to 1/4oz.in. which is a bit overkill but let me tell ya it is smooooooth.

I thought about not balancing the tires at all with the centramatics, but the latest set of tires that (former) Big O put on were these incredibly bad, but still expensive Chinese things, so out of balance that they said they couldn't be balanced. I had to take them to a truck tire place to get that part of the job done. Never again.

Lynn,

Sorry about the bad tires, I have had a few bad ones over the years on cars. Forget the centrimatics and pour in bird shot, all that stuff does not mount to hill of beans under 40mph anyway (granted balance is not a big deal at low speeds). For truly balaced running gear you have to balance each component dynamically the cost is reletively the same and you can have the confidence that it is done properly. The new drums that I installed were all out by as much as 7 ounces brand new!

Question

An old school trucker told me that years ago they used to put about six golf balls inside each tire. Hard to believe but he swore by it!!
