Andy, ordered them today from Inland. You price beats everyone else. Thank you. Can't wait to have them.

Centramatics Installed

Received my Centramatics from Inland RV this week, and installed them this afternoon.

It gave me an opportunity to carefully inspect our Marathons, before our 5k trip next month. Tires all appear to be in good shape, wearing uniformly, and no apparent signs of belt failure......ran my hands around and across all the threads. The most interesting thing I discovered is that both rear tires had been balanced at the factory, but the front two had no weights. Any idea of why only the rears would be balanced?

Will try and road test the Centramatics next weekend. I'm wondering just how much noise those little balancing bb's are going to make at low campground speeds.......I can just imagine the other campers chasing me down to tell me something is wrong with the running gear.

I certainly second standard wheel-only balancing combined with centramatics. We ordered ours (from the factory) about a year ago, and I think they did help. I'm really glad that Andy is now carrying the centramatics. It'll make ordering for other folks a lot simpler.

When we got ours, I couldn't figure out which way they they faced, so I called Centramatics. They said, "either way". The instructions say you don't need to balance the wheels if you use them, but can.

This is really what you want to do to balance your drums. Take them to a precision balance house and have them balanced dynamically down to 1/2 ounce/inch. This way you will only have to balance your wheel/tire mount and not have to worry about rotation if you ever rotate the tires on your trailer. What you see in the picture is lead poured in the drum cooling holes and then sealed in with epoxi. I had mine balanced to 1/4oz.in. which is a bit overkill but let me tell ya it is smooooooth.

I thought about not balancing the tires at all with the centramatics, but the latest set of tires that (former) Big O put on were these incredibly bad, but still expensive Chinese things, so out of balance that they said they couldn't be balanced. I had to take them to a truck tire place to get that part of the job done. Never again.

Lynn,

Sorry about the bad tires, I have had a few bad ones over the years on cars. Forget the centrimatics and pour in bird shot, all that stuff does not mount to hill of beans under 40mph anyway (granted balance is not a big deal at low speeds). For truly balaced running gear you have to balance each component dynamically the cost is reletively the same and you can have the confidence that it is done properly. The new drums that I installed were all out by as much as 7 ounces brand new!

Question

An old school trucker told me that years ago they used to put about six golf balls inside each tire. Hard to believe but he swore by it!!
