FYI Nokian 235/75/R15's are GTG

Hello all..

We just returned from a 1 month trip to Utah, with the 2017 28 ft International Serenity. I had mounted the LT E rated Nokians on the factory wheels when we first purchased, a much less expensive option than buying all new 16" wheels.

The 235/75 R15's fit right into the wheel well, with no fit issues. The size difference between the ST's and these LT's is less than 1 inch. Minimal.

We drove over 5000 miles with this set up... with a few hundred miles of back road gravel/BLM land and even a few trails meant for 4x4 vehicles to get out to some mining claims... the tires performed flawlessly.

For those wanting to make the switch to a true E rated LT tire, without the expense of new 16" wheels, the Nokians are an excellent choice!

Nokian makes incredibly good snow tires, too. No surprise for a Nordic country/company to produce great snow tires.

Thanks for the report. It's time for us to switch either this fall or next spring and I've been watching for posts like this one to finalize my decision. We've put almost 8,000 miles on the original GYMs this summer and are actually wearing out the tread, I won't go much further on them!!

What national chains carry these (for warranty purposes)?

At 2760 then de-rate for TT service to .9 = 2485

Deduct 12.5% as reserve capacity = 2175 give or take

4300+ per axle (true scaled weight)

And, what is tread width?

(It should go without saying that TT tires need to have a rim width and tread width match for best performance).

I believe there is no de-rate needed for LT tires

You are correct, they run at 80 psi. I run that all the time smooth as silk. Some folks may go lower

No derating these.. they are LT E rated tires..

https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tir...iva-at/p/25118

LT235 /75 R15 116S E1 BSW
ITEM: 25118
40,000 mile warranty

Thats #2700+ pounds per tire load rating.

They drove soft.. no "hard" feel to them. They are made with a lowe rolling resistance. Pricey? Sure... but when you dont have to buy 4 new sendel 16" wheels, it makes these very affordable!

No sway.. and they really shined when going off grind into BLM land, where the roads can be more like "trails".. they never missed a beat... even crawling behind our 4x4 over some slick rock trail to get to a campsite.

The point of posting this was to let some folks know that this brand is GTG.. we did this trip in 102 degree weather as well!

Gotcha on the 10%.

A "derate" of 12.5% is to leave a reserve. A cushion.

What is tread width?

And what rim width, OP?

I am using the stock factory wheels on the 2017 28ft international serenity... So what ever that rim width is. Thats the beauty of these.. the factory 15" wheels work with a true LT e rated tire.

As for size differences, follow this link.. tire size calculator, difference between 225/75 r15 and 235 75 r15

Honestly, the tires come with a built in "cushion"... but you should do what makes you feel safe.

The E rating is for 80 PSI cold. As well all know from experience, as soon as you get on the road, the tires heat up, and the PSI rises upwards of 8+/- lbs. That higher pressure is accounted for and built into the tire.

Not sure what size you are working with, or weight... but our rig with water in the tanks, loaded for a 1 month desert adventure was still a few thousand pound below what the tires were capable of handling.

Ordered the Nokians last night from Walmart. On sale for $100. Been looking at the upgrade to 16” wheels and Michelin’s but that route was about $1,600+. Around $600 out the door including spare. No brainer...

I will remove the wheels from the AS and have them mount and balance. I may opt for a local tire shop to do the work.
