Front spare tire mount

I have a 64 Safari and want to mount spare tire in front, upright, between body and propane tanks. Iíve searched the forums but still need some engineering help.

Spare will fit there with very limited space front/rear but I need to support/secure/cover it and stay clear of body and area for stabilizer mounts (which I donít have yet so not sure EXACTLY where they mount).

I can weld on 2 cross bars of angle iron to support it but need some sort of upright to secure it also.

Does anyone have pictures that show details of front spare tire mount, upright, secured and preferably locked in place? Perhaps with ďhubĒ plate for securing with lug nuts/lock

How much clearance should I allow to body? Only ĺĒ to spare. How far forward of body, aft of hitch, do stabilizer mounts install? Should tire rest partially on hitch A frame or be completely supported above it?

I have a '64 GlobeTrotter with an original spare tire mounting bracket on the tongue which sounds just like what you are thinking of adding to your Safari.

You can check out our website (link below) to see it. Unfortunately, I am leaving town tomorrow and can't take any additional pictures or dimensions prior to leaving. If you would like me to take additional pictures &/or dimensions, send me a PM and I will upon my return 10/16

This thread shows a picture of my OEM spare tire carrier. If I can provide additional detail, please let me know.

There is also an overall picture of the tire/tank combination in my photos.

Thanks, these are very helpful. Tom, how does the mount attach to the body? Rivets? I'd like to avoid actual body contact if possible.

Yes, a plethora of 3/16" pop rivets. If you look carefully in the picture, you can see the holes in the carrier.
