I just received a call from the tire shop. They said yesterday the Cooper's would be in today. Wrong. They may be able to get them in a week or two. May. I need to get good rubber on the Overlander and I can't be waiting on pins and needles for tires that may be coming. The tire shop then pitched Carlisles. Carlisles! If I wanted Carlisles I can buy them anywhere for $85 a pop. If anyone from Cooper Tires is reading this, feel free to drop me a note.

Two years ago when I was looking for a good tire, the custom trailer plus floated to the top quickly.
However:
Coopers marketing structure is this, tires must be bought by local tire distributers in groups, large groups say each order minimum is $60,000 at a purchase. I could not find any local Cooper distributor willing to purchase $60,000.00 worth of tires just to sell me 5 tires.
As for the cost, you get what you pay for.
You want the rubber compounds that will withstand the heat of 65 + MPH on a west Texas summer day it costs.
You want the cheaper compounds that may well not stand the heat, buy ST tires (except for the Cooper Custom Trailer Plus).

FWIW I talked to the guys at a Cooper Distribution Center today, they have the ST225/75R15 in stock, as many as you want for $79. And they will ship if you want. I don't work for them or have any interest in the business, so this is not a commercial for them. 509-535 7782

i just bought a cooper trailer tire from NTW it is US made cost about $80.
i had treed seperation on another goodyear marathoon. im going to replace the goodyears with the coopers as they continue to fail. all marathoons are china made. i had a dealer tell me they were made on gadsden alabama. side wall says china.

Hello - its interesting that this post came back up today as I have been checking into replacement tires for our Argosy. I called the customer service #800 for Cooper today and was told that the Custom Trailer tire has been discontinued as of last month - so any you find at Dealers have been on the shelf. (I might mention asking for the DOT # off the tire for how long it has been since manufacture). The CSR did say she has gotten a lot of calls saying people want that tire, so maybe they will start it up again.

The other interesting part of a conversation I had w/a Wholesaler here was that Cooper makes another trailer tire under the "National" brand name. It is made in the US and is available. They indicated it is "just as good" as the Custom Trailer Plus.

I would be interested to know if anyone here has heard of it or used it as the price of $80. is quite reasonable. Thanks for any and all info.

I posted elsewhere regarding D or E and the belt separation problems I'm having.
Cooper Custom Trailer Plus seems to be the way to go. I"m betting the dealer I'm calling tomorrow near Gary IN won't have them. Airstream is a fantastic US made product and I wonder why it does not come standard with the Coopers.
Lets face it 185.00 every five years per tire is better than 85.00 every 18 months. Granted perhaps lighter weight trailers don't have the issues the heavy 34's have.
I do hate to waste 85bucksX3 right now then buy the coopers upon returning to CT after Madison. but it's still better I guess than blowouts.

I have used Coopers on all of my vehicles, they are made in my home state of Arkansas. I love every set I have had.

I will be buying Cooper Tires LT/SUV to put on my 19' Airstream Bambi this summer. I can get them in LRE, and while I do not need that high of a rating, I want them anyway. The stock tires are fine, I want the reliability I have known Cooper tires to have. Yes, the price is higher, but I find that when I exceed tread wear warranty and still have beautiful tires on my car and truck, I know they are worth every cent. (Always replace your tires when the tread wear is exceeded.)

I have a trip to Oregon planned this summer, and will post how I think they handled the trip and load.

They seem like a good tire. I have that exact tire on my trailer and put about 15,000 on them in the past couple of years. No problems so far.

Bob,
I have been using those Carlisle's in a "D" load range since 2009. Been OK so far, don't loose air (65 psi), often ran at 70 mph but they are just another ST tire made of "Chinesium".

Three of my four Carlisles failed catastrophically between 6000- 8000 miles. They were less than two years old. Have TPMS and they were fine right up to when they weren't. I don't have them anymore...

Just my experience.
