Considering Goodyear Endurance

I have been running a set of Goodyear Marathons for last 2 1/2 years, putting about 18,000 miles on them with no problems. They still show very little wear on my 25' Safari. I keep well inflated and have a TPMS to keep check. They look like they would run many more miles. Wondering what mileage and age others are putting on them. I plan to go to the Goodyear Endurance but would like to hear more reviews on them before purchasing. Am I pushing my luck with the Marathons??

There are a number of existing threads about the new GYE tires. Searching for GYE in the blue search box above yields:

https://www.google.com/search?q=gye&...=airforums.com

and the leading threads are probably:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f438...ce-170015.html
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f438...-157249-8.html

Good luck!

Peter

PS -- As one important step, you should probably check the DOT stamp on the tires for the date of mfg. per this page:

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret....jsp?techid=11

Lots of advice on the threads linked above about the age at which replacement should occur.

Is your date code on the Marathons close to the install date? You may find that they were on the shelf up to a year or more before you bought them. That's got the effect of running out the clock on the tire age before you even bought them.

As an aside, I'll be switching to Endurance in a couple months on our 30' Safari and don't have any particular reservations about doing so. Good couple threads on here a bit back about the GYE's.

I just put them on our 2013 FC FB. Although, I am confused at what PSI to run them.

First, consult the vehicle tire placard, which should be somewhere in the front of the vehicle.

Is the size you put on the same? If so, then that is a good reference point.

Rule of thumb says to use the max pressure written on the sidewall, but if you have changed size or Load Range, that answer might not be correct.

Another thread mentioned correspondance from AS that said 65 psi. I've been running mine at 65 on a 23. Smooth ride and little out of place when we get where we are going.

When I had the tires installed, they inflated them to 80PSI. Drove for about 30 miles that way. Hope I didn't do any lasting damage.

I took my first trip at 80 psi then reduced to 65 psi. No worries. Thanks for the chart! Mine are 15's on a 23 couch GVWR 5800 lbs I suppose I could run them even softer but with summer temps here in triple digits higher pressure should run cooler and be stronger. Comfortable margin of safety at 65 psi.

Tires don't last forever. Two and a half years is still a good tire. However the post above is spot on regarding the age of the tire. Check the date code on the tire. The manufacturing date will be based on week and year. That is the age of the tire because it is not uncommon to have an older tire installed on a trailer.

Then you need to make a decision on how long you want to run the tires. 4 to 7 years has been what is posted. Passenger vehicle tires usually get replaced based on wear. Trailer tires typically don't get used as much as daily driver tires. Age is usually the decision to replace versus wear.

Thumbs up Goodyear Endurance Tires Made in USA

I'm just passing on a good deal and a good deed. I just replaced the factory Goodyear Marathons with the GY Endurance on my 2012, 25', Int'l Serenity yesterday. we had some tread separation on the orig tires in May and decided its time to replace ( 5 yrs is long enough) and didn't want to experience damage with anything more serious. So, the replacement Endurance is ST225/75R15 117N E1...
80 PSI, Load range E , and made in the USA stamped into the sidewall...
and have a higher speed rating than the Marathons ( which I believe were rated at 65MPH @ 65PSI) Discount tire has a Labor day sale . I got these at $118/ea.. that's before any balancing, road warranty, taxes , etc... bought 4 got $100 coupon. put on a Discount Tire credit card , got another $60 deal ( Visa card). and have 6 mo. no interest to pay.

in addition the good deed is that the factory nut decorative outer casing thing, that little piece of metal that starts cracking when you put a lug wrench on it, all got replaced ( along with the orig. nut) with a brand new chrome nut. after the installers got thru torquing to whatever torque they do I found several of those little covers on the ground ( there they threw them) and took those to management and asking if he could do anything to help out on these as far as replacement, he said sure and replaced every one (24) with the new ones. very nice!!! this was at the Discount Store in Lubbock, Tx 82nd st. and University...

I replaced our GYM's in July when Discount had a similar sale. They beat Goodyear's price for each tire plus Discount offered a Road Hazard plan, Goodyear would not. In addition to the Discount Tire rebates you mentioned, I received a rebate from Goodyear. You night still be able to get the Goodyear rebate.

Like you, Discount was happy to replace all of the two piece lug nuts with solid ones for no additional cost.

The only down side was they were reluctant in properly jacking the trailer at the proper points, even after showing them where the points were...

yes!!!! on the jacking,i showed the salesman where to jack when we were discussing the deal. apparently he and the installers are on different wave lengths... I noticed that the truck and trailer had been pulled over to the last end of the building and the installers were pulling jacks over and looking underneath on front of trailer to start jacking. they had no idea !!!! i actuallY had to get down under the trailer to show them where it said "JACK" I stayed there with them the whole time to be sure they didn't jack in the wrong place. they finally got it jacked up on the designated spot and then used another jack to get the front axel up. i'm not sure why but they wanted all 4 tires off the ground b4 they started working. if I had not been there the whole time I would have never known about the nut covers being thrown away. anyway i'm happy with what i got, tks for the info on Goodyear maybe throwing in some promo $ also..

Changed mine out at 2 1/2 years with probably 10K miles it may sound foolish but I wont chance a blowout with the Marathons (Explodithons) I went with Goodyear Endurance ST225/75 R15... leaving in a couple weeks... Also purchased at Discount Tire with $100 rebate and the warranty

Put mine on my 34' 5 months ago.
In 10000 miles pressure values have remained at 72 psi.
No wear, especially on the third axle that usually scuffs as you turn.
Balance and rotate this week, and will inspect more closely when they're off....

I like them alot, I think I have much better road feel than any of the tires I have used.

My new 27' 2018 has the Endurance tires, and except for one that was losing pressure & had to be repaired, they've been great. I was surprised with the 80# recommendation on the tire placard, but it seems to run smoothly. Haven't had anything popping open inside on the road . . .

We have a '96 34'er and the previous owner had just put 6 new GYMs on shortly before we bought it. 14 months later and about 2000 miles later I am scared of them. We have tight turns around where we live and the 'sideways slide' of the 3rd set of tires also worries me. Leaning toward GY Endurance 'E' rated. With a dry weight of 8300#+ I want as much under that unit as I can without going crazy.
Thanks for your post

IMO-the Goodyears are garbage.
I use Carlisle exclusively, you can buy them at Walmart.com $67 per tire for the 10 ply.

Seriously? A $67 dollar tire over the Goodyear Endurance tires? Aren't those Carlisle tires made in China?

No pressure monitors. I do check pressures, and temps a lot...
