Or, 1/20". A lot less than 1/8" as I suspected, but don't trust my memory anymore.

This model comes with a threaded stud mounted on the back. 5/16, as I remember.
I simply drilled a hole in the center cap and mounted it.
It is kinda handy, no more estimating mileage for service intervals.

JD

My wife has a pen and a little book to record trailer events such as trips, wheel bearing repacking, tire purchases, etc. She's not cheap, but the book and pen are. And our truck has a meter which records Odos which we convert to miles.

But none of them have the cool factor of the hubdometer. On my list a long time. Thanks for photo's above.
jdalyrmple on which wheel did you mount? I was thinking starboard rear, but concerned I'd sooner or later drag it against a curb in a 90-degree city turn.
As to CENTRAMATIC I'd say the use on Class 8 trucks and passenger buses might be the staple of the business. The reports from that sector are outstanding for on-road applications (that I have read and heard).

I just installed a hubometer last fall...because:
1) I used to remember my service mileages
2) Then I forgot them, so I got a log
3)Then I'd misplace my log book, so I wrote them on slips of paper
4) Then I found the log book
5) Then I couldn't find the slips of paper
6) Then I got an AS with Nev-r-lubes
Sorry...couldn't resist.

Nev-r-Lubes cost less than a wife with log book and pen, but wives can provide a number of other benefits. The hubometer is definitely cool, but can it cook, provide companionship, tell you to buy an Airstream plus other more private benefits?

I found information on failures which was caused by a manufacture using 10 mm offset wheels, much more of an offset than a Centramatic would cause. A couple of threads are active on the subject. This pains me as I have a new set of Centramatics on my trailer which have not turned one revolution.
Gene do you happen to have Nev-R-Lube bearings? I really don't want to remove my Centramatics.

The Dexter guy who warned about Centramatics did not appear to know anything about them. I think someone who works at an axle company should know this kind of stuff. There's no science involved in his answer, just an opinion off the top of his head and possibly it comes from a fear of lawsuits.
Secondly, the Airstream wheels have had a 0˚ offset for many years and there are no reports of premature bearing failure.
Dexter is behind the times since bearings needing far less frequent lubrication than offered by Dexter prior to their marketing the Nev-r-Lube ones have been sold for decades for motor vehicles.

Considering Centramatics- new wheels ordered and on the way- will get new tires when the wheels get in- wanting Centramatic balancers and McGard lug nuts-
Looks like the Centramatic balancers for my trailer are the 200-221 special and I might have to order directly form Centramatic- can't find another supplier who has them.

Since this thread re-appeared....update: I've now run more than 20k miles with the Centramatics. No bearing (Nev-R-Lube) issues to report.

I am about to order Centramatic 200-221 Special.
Do I need to worry about wheel weights anymore?

Rich, good to know. That little tidbit from Nev-R-Lube a couple years ago has kept us from getting the Centramatics. We travel widely and often remotely, are very careful to add anything that may compromise reliability of the running gear. We are stopping at Jackson Center in October for a Airstream checkup including bearing runout. Maybe we should bring a set of Centramatics along and put them on while the wheels are off.

As I recall, the CM will handle up to 3 oz of imbalance. I still get a balance whenever a tire is off the rim, due to old experience with steel (in particular) trailer wheels and ST tires not being the best of quality. Probably with LTs and aluminum wheels it is unnecessary, but if you happen to get the wheel out of balance point aligned with the heavy spot in a tire....who knows. I certainly don't balance in between tire swaps.

So-
It won't hurt to balance, but if within 3 oz. everything will be ok if a wheel weight falls off/slings off-

I put a set on about 4 years ago with the Nev-R-Lub hubs, roughly 30,000 road miles to date, no issues at all. I did have the wheels balanced with new tires 2 years ago and the original wheels were balanced before I put the Centramatics on.

Hi, you won't feel a thing, but your trailer will. Centramatics make up for the factory unbalanced brake drums and some minor un-balance of your wheels. [like a missing weight or a rock collection in your tread] Still continue to have your tires/wheels balanced as normal.
