I just replaced my rims and tires with the 16 225 LT Michelins. HINT: If you're anywhere near to the factory do it there, it's cheaper. As it was, I spent quite a bit more AND had to take off the old rim/tires and put the new ones on by myself. I did impress quite a few men in the campground by doing it, but talk about walking like a woman and smelling like a GOAT, whew!
I recently completed a 4000+ mile round trip from Virginia Beach to San Antonio and back - right after I'd replaced the old Marathons which had tread, but sidewall separation from sun damage.
In spite of the 100+ heat for most of the trip, the new tires and rims performed beautifully. I spent quite a bit of time OFF the major interstates, but could run with the big dogs on I-40 when I had to.
Really could feel the difference, but I also added centramatics so?
Going to Montreal in September. (Give a woman tires that will do 70 mph safely and she turns into Travelling Tilly.

I just put 4 new load range E RH's on my 25' Safari for a trip out to Cali and back (3000+ miles)...traveled thru New Mexico and Arizona in 109-110 degree full sun...traveling 7-8 hours per day...tires performed well (they stayed at consistent pressures and ran cooler than the GYM's I replaced). I guess the proof of quality will come with time;-) Plan on another 3200 mile trip in about 3 1/2 weeks up to Wisconsin...will let you all know how it goes.

I would be leary of any tire running at cold max temps in extreme heat conditions. The blacktop on a 100 degree day can be pushing 130 degrees surface temp or more. The tire pressures could well exceed cold max pressures and stress the tire beyond its limits. When im running in those temps I usually back the pressures down to 70 psi(assuming we are still talking about E rated tires) and give my self some wiggle room.
Just my opinion anyways..

The trick is you have to ask for Carlisle USA Trail ST tires. Most Carlisle tires are made overseas except for the USA Trail tires, which are trailer only tires. I found this online and none of the tire dealers that I called knew about this. I got them mounted last night and stamped in the side-wall is MADE IN USA.

Don't know what RH's are. Please decode for me.
Thanks!

Hmm interesting about the Carlisle RH.. Since Goodyear owns Carlisle, is Goodyear beefing up the spec quality of the G Marathons ST's?. I think when we buy new tires for Squarestream, it will be sporting Michelins. After 3 blown up sets of Carlisles, they have mud in their eyes.

Tires O' Doom
Had a full set (4 on, 1 spare). Every one of them failed catastrophically despite my near anal attention to inflation, balancing etc. Usually failed with sidewall blow out but had two with belt separation.
Gave my Pressure Pro a real workout.
Fired my tire guy over these crappy tires.

Hey Paula. Gonna give your old rims a test drive in a few weeks. We're planning a trip to Quebec and over to PEI and back down through Maine. The wheels are lookin great but haven't had them out on the road yet. I hope we have as good an experience with them as you have with yours. Maybe down the road a but I'll go the 16" route with Michelins too. I did go Michelin on my truck this past year. So far so good. Some towing too.
Thanks again, see ya on the road

"Probably" turned into "did." We are under odd circumstances though, using the gutted airstream as a large tent for the time being. Went with load range D Carlisle RH's (not sure if they are US or not but will check.) With the trailer weighing around 3200 pounds, I think it should be ok. We'll likely roll the 16" route once we do our full restore next winter. We leave the morning of the 5th to go from Colorado to North Caroliina and will report back on if there are issues or not. More on our tire situation at Carlisle Radial Trail RH tires on an Airstream trailer

Maxxis
I've been running Maxxis ST load range D tires since I purchased them in 5/08. They have around 9,000 miles on them so far without any problems. I did have a blowout with a fairly new Carlisle on my '77 Excella years ago. I've been pleased with the Maxxis tires and will buy them again.

thumbs down
The person who sold us our trailer had put Carlisle bias ply tires on. Based upon our experience, I will not ever have another set of Carlisle tires on our trailer.

We put new Carlisle tires on our Airstream just prior to attending the WBCCI rally in Madison, Wisconsin. We had a blowout on the way home and replaced that tire.
On August 15, 2011, we had another blowout and the second tire separated from the rim resulting in a jackknife incident. We will go with different tires in the future.
