Blowout

Marathon 15s... 3 yrs, about 10k. Tread and pressure were checked before the trip. Was discussing going to LT 16s just this trip.

The single axle has always been a concern with the 20 footer.

Recommendations on new 16 wheel and tire for a 2010 20 footer?

Ouch.
The simplest, though not necessarily the cheapest, way to get 16" tires and wheels is to buy a set, or at least a pair, of wheels and Michelin LTX's from your Airstream dealer. If the dealer for some reason isn't sure what you want, tell them you want a pair of Eddie Bauer wheels and Michelin LTX 225 75R16 tires. Center caps are a separate purchase.

For what it's worth I just bought 3 michelins ms2 225 75 16 from
Simple tire dot com for 175 each. $100 less per tire from Costco $50 less per from discount tire and $50 less than the other local guy I sometimes use.

I was afraid of the same result and have been crossing my fingers on every trip. Sorry for your troubles. Tires arrive tomorrow. Wheels are in my garage waiting on the new rubber. So far they have been responsive and quick with shipping and Updates.

Ouch!

Welcome to the CLUB 9tire blowout)! I'm sorry it happened to you. I had Carlisle tires new, doesn't matter. Check the other tire to make sure it doesn't have a defect. If so you could have recourse to the tire company, I did. They had me sent one of the other tires back to them and it was determined the tires were defective and they reimbursed me in full for the tires, not the damage. Half a loaf is better than none! Good luck!

Thanks all for the recommendations. Now to find repair service near San Antonio. Explore USA is no longer an Airstream dealer and the nearest (Camper Clinic) scares me.

In a June trip from Tucson to Hollywood Florida I had three ST tire blowouts, two GYMs and one no name I purchased 200 miles up the road. Two of the blowouts were in the home state of the originator of this thread, Texas.
Multiple days of 100+ weather and 2000 miles of freeway driving did the tires in. Fortunately no trailer damage.
I put Michelins (4 15 inchers on a lighter double axle Safari) on in Hollywood and have had zero tire problems and a much smoother ride.
The question I have is why Airstream who sells their products for much more than other travel trailer manufacturers persists on putting these substandard products on their trailers when serial failures have been documented.
I practiced law before I retired. If I was still practicing, I would evaluate a class action lawsuit.
One day one of those exploding tires is going to cause a fatal accident.

Michelins 16" with Sendel T03 Wheels. There great!!!! Performance ,wear and hold air press. Just returned from a 12333 mile trip and didn't have to worry about tires !
Half way thru trip put Michelins on TV. Wow what an improvement espc. wet /snow traction. And a nice ride.

I bought the set from Discount Tire. They had to do some searching but found them. $104 for the wheel. Tires were $226/each. You can find the tires $50 cheaper online but it was easier/quicker for me to have Discount do it all.
