Basic Tire/Wheel Advice

I just purchased a 1961 Tradewind that has been sitting for probably 15 years and need to haul it back home about 300 (thankfully very flat) miles through Illinois. Tires and wheels are shot (obviously). Will have the bearings packed before making the return trip. Axles come as part of the overall repair work. Here is the question - what size wheels and tires are best to get? I have GYM 225/75 15's on my 1973 Overlander, but know they were a tight squeeze on one side where the axle was frozen. I have been told the a 1961 might be better with a narrower tire. I will not have access to the trailer prior to picking it up. I plan to just purchase three new wheels and tires before heading out to pick it up. For wheels, was looking at the 15 x 6 from VTS.
