Bambi 16' - Time for New Tires

My Bambi's tires are 5 years old, so I'm going to replace them before this season starts. The plan is to upgrade the wheels from 14" to 15", and gain some extra safety margin by going with Load Range D tires.

The easy thing would be to go with ST rated tires (225/75R15 D) - but there's so much posted about problems with the stock Marathon's.

So I'm considering going with LT tires - Michelin makes a couple in size 235/75R15 XL - kind of like Load Range D. My objectives are to have something better for the gravel roads I always end up on, and to avoid the 'blow out' issues people describe with the Marathon's. Lewster did a similar upgrade with his 19' - went to LT tires, tho' he went from 15" to 16" - but I haven't noticed him posting much since last year - and he seemed pretty happy with how they performed.

So I'm just looking for a last round of thoughts and suggestions from others who have done a similar upgrade - the good, the bad, and the ugly - before I pull the trigger and order the new tires - ST, LT, or ??

Thanks in advance for all inputs!

There are lots of posts on tires on this forum, with lots of good info. We switched to Maxxis in same size (225/75R15 E) after a Marathon failure, although there are many other options available to you. So far, no problems with Maxxis; but not very many miles on them yet. Check out many strings on this subject (tires), and good luck!

We went with the 'D' rated tires aswell. Im very happy with them. My trailer originally had marathons but we switched to Carlisle's.

Lewster did a fine service providing technical assistance here at AIR. He has stepped back from active involvement posting in threads. Last I heard he is willing to provide advice via private messages.
