Appreciate advise 23cb

Hi we are in the market for a 23CB. Hopefully 2017-2019 range. My question is that I have read that these units although they tow beautifully can bottom out on various things. We are not looking to off road with the unit but as you know campsites can vary considerably. So my question is would it be wise to upgrade the tires to a larger size or have it lifted? Any feedback is appreciated. Thank

Tires do 1/2 inch of good. Lots of.money for almost no benefit IMHO. lift kit, especially if you can do it yourself makes more sense.

They already have larger tires in those model years. I would not suggest lifting the trailer, as it has been designed for the low center of gravity that is one reason it tows well. The 23' is no lower than any other standard Airstream model.

Welcome,
I might be able to help guild you a little.
The 2015+ Models all have 15” wheels so the wheel upgrade is not required.
As far as a lift goes, “I” think they are not required but are beneficial. We used our 23D for 2 years without a lift and then I decided to build a custom lift kit. Link here http://www.airforums.com/forums/blog...lift-kit-2901/

Since then I have lifted 4 other Airstreams. So I am quite familiar with them.
The 3” Lift has no noticeable side effects in towing or otherwise.
It does give you piece of mind when entering and exiting gas stations, camp sites ect. The increased ground clearance helps with gravity when dumping tanks.
Sewer connection clearance goes from 9” to 12”.
Anywho, a lift is NOT needed to safely use the trailer. I can only think of one instance where I was close on rear end clearance and that was a place I did not need to be anyway. Now that I have the lift we just tow it anywhere.

Also. IF you have a taller tow vehicle the lift help with the amount of drop you will need at the hitch.

Hope this helps....

lift

If we wanted to do a lift would the dealership do it or a reputable trailer shop? Is it a safe adjustment for the bottom of the trailer? Also not related but is it worth to get the exterior coating upgrade on the trailer if it is used/ new? Thanks so much for your answers

Coatings ? If it’s the new ceramic stuff, it’s pretty nice but pricy.
Lift can be done by a dealer, trailer shop or it is very DIY if you have a helper.
