Anyone Using These LT Tires?
It's been a while back, but I remember some people using the Yokahama 7R15 LT tires on their Airstreams, and I wonder if anyone can give an update on their performance/logivity in trailer use?

I put these on my '58 Overlander a few months ago. Sorry, but I can't give you an honest appraisal of their performance yet since I really haven't towed much with them. In the short 40 miles I've towed it on the Interstate and around town they appear to be doing fine, but that's not much of testing period. I'll give a full report next Spring after my restoration is complete.

One of the "reviews" on the tires
Initial Review, 15,000 Miles on Tires
January 19, 2009I bought a set of 4 for my 28ft .enclosed work trailer... having been thru MANY kinds of trailer tires... Carlisle,Goodyear,Towmaster.. they were ALL sub standard .. didn't last very long before they came apart .. local tire dealer said to try these and they are GREAT ... never had a tire go more than 10,000 miles these will go much further than that ... anyone looking for a TOUGH trailer tire .. this is it.

I run them on my trailer and they have been an excellent tire . In fact this is my third set . Replacement was due to age not wear in both instances .What I really like is that thay look like a bias tire but are actually a radial . Tire Rack stocks them.

Thanks for your input, 63air. Might I ask at what age you replaced your previous sets?

I put them on my 8k GVWR tandem axle 34' Silver Streak, ran about 5k miles. Previous owner had also used them. Heavy construction, narrow tread, never squirmed on full lock turns. Never ran hot, either. Added new shock absorbers and CENTRAMATIC balancers, very happy with package for the short time used (have posted on them several times).
We were full-timing and trailer weight stayed around 7,400#.
SILVER STREAK spec'd a Load Range C tire, and these were perfect, IMO.

Replaced each set when they were between 4-5 years old. The first set was on the trailer when I bought it . Sure I could run them longer and they were certainly not anywhere near worn out. I have at least 50,000 miles of travel on this model of tire.

I have a set on our trailer a little over 2 yrs. and 15,000 miles and they are very good tires on a trailer, really like the tires will buy another set in a couple years because of age.
Another good LT tire is Toyo, they make a 15" also.

You will also find those tires on the front of thousands of BIG TRUCKS accross the country. Both are good brand tires.

I went to Toyo's web site, and could not find any 15" "D" rated tire. I did find one 235/75 15 tire in a "C" rating, but no "D".

Steve; I have never looked up Toyo tires, I know a few people that are using them on their trailers and going by what they say about them. I am at the Fall Colors Rally at Penwood Pa now and I know one person that is here that has the Toyo tires, as soon as everyone is up and around I will check and see what the rating is on his I do know they are 700.15 LT tires.

Toyo M 53 7.00 R15 105L 8PR BSW Summer tires: Automotive at Bizrate.
Try this Steve, I looked at my friends tires and they say 8pr and it says the same thing on their web site, I don't know if that means 8ply or not.
Hope this helps.

The specs appear the same with both YOKOHAMA RY-215 and TOYO M-53 (the load rating is 2040#)
Yokohama Tire
http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/30068.pdf
Except that the TOYO is tube type!
I don't see the M53 listed at
LIGHT COMMERCIAL TRUCK | Toyo Tires
I ordered my 7R-15 (7.00 x 15) YOKOHAMA RY-215's thru Tire Rack, had them road-force balanced and installed them with Centramatic balancers. Those (and new shock absorbers) made a world of difference after an axle alignment.
