Alternatives for R15 D Load Range Tire

Looking for a D Load Range 225x75xR15 tire for a '73 Globetrotter is there any alternatives besides Goodyear Marathons? I've looked an Michelin LTX and BF Goodrich Commerical T/As neither which offer a D rated tire in this size. Not familar with Maxxis is this a quality tire?

Maxxis makes a good tire....and in every size from bicycles to huge earth movers.

They have a 15" LRD and 15" LRE tire that will do nicely on your trailer without having to get new rims. Look for the Maxxis M8008 in ST225/75-15.

Cooper makes an ST 225/75 R15 that is speed rated to 107mph (Custom Trailer Plus). All other ST tires that I'm familiar with are only rated to 65mph, so I went with the Cooper. They were hard to find locally, so I ordered them on line without a problem.

Hi Run tires

My local mechanic put on a set of Hi Run tires on my Tradewind. It probably would not have been my choice, but they were already on. He says it's a real good tire, Chinese. I have about 7000 miles on them and no complaints. Less than $100 each.

Cooper Custom Trailer Plus

It's hard to find, but I think this link will get you almost there:
Cooper Tires. Don't Give Up A Thing. Ultra-High Performance, Passenger, Light Truck, SUV, Motorsport, Motorcycle and Commercial Tires
Now click on Select Another Tire and you should find the Custom Trailer and Custom Trailer Plus at the bottom of the list. You can then click on tire specifications at the lower right. I was wrong on the speed rating, it's actually a little than what I said. Geo...

Well, the link didn't work like I thought. It just gets you to their website, so when you get there click on Tires the click Light Truck. It will default on Zeon LTX. Now you can Select Another Tire and find the Trailer tires at the bottom of the list. Sorry 'bout that. Geo...

One more thing on the Coopers. I couldn't find them locally, so ordered the on line from TireSavings.com. They're not cheap, but I feel like I got a good set of tires. Had no problem with TireSavings -- got them right away, just as promised. Geo...

Thanks for the info on the Coopers - I like the fact that they have a greater than 65 mile speed rating compared to the Marathons. For people in MA, RI, CT Benny stores can order these tires for a few dollars less than internet pricing. Anybody else with experience with this tire?

This is what I've used on my 8,000-lb GVWR Silver Streak, tandem-axle:

Yokohama RY215 LT Load Range D, 15", 8-ply rating in 7.00 x 15 (7R-15): see TIRE RACK

They balanced well (less than 24-ozs per wheel/tire assembly) and exactly meet the load rating recommendation by the trailer manufacturer.

The corporate site has a good description and picture plus specs:

I bought them in June of '07 and it looks like they were manufactured early October '06 -- about 8 months old at the time. They were build in Findley, OH. I assume it's still in production, but don't really know. Geo...

I also need new tires & want new rims at the same time. Does TRIE rack sell a steel rim that will fit my 66 Safari? or where can I get rims & tires for my trailers?
