We've had our Airstream for four years now, and the job I hate most is checking tire pressure. Not that the checking part is hard, its the topping off.
If we're home, it means dragging out the air compressor lines to reach all the way to the driveway. If we're on the road, it means pulling out the
12V pump and the
12V extension cord - not to mention that the little
12V bugger is NOISY! Not a good thing to do in the early morning in a crowded campground when you're getting ready to leave.
And all that for what is usually 1/2 or 1 PSI needed per tire!
If have found the solution for topping off - a simple manual 'sport' pump like
THIS ONE. There's a dozen listed online, but this one would work fine.
At first, I thought I'd be pumping 'till I popped (not the tire). However, this little unit pumped my 75 PSI tires on my F250 very easily - 10 strokes for 1 PSI. (These sport pumps can pump up to 150 PSI for high-performance racing bicycles).
On the Airstream, it was even easier - maybe 8 strokes for 1 PSI.
Obvioulsy you wouldn't want to use it for a complete flat, but for a quick check in the morning, its great. Lightweight - easy to store in the rear compartment. Also, nice to have as a backup - manual gadgets tend to work when you need them!
