Acquiring a spare

What is the most logical, economical way to obtain a spare for a long trip?

I went through this same process last year when someone stole my spare.
First, Know that it has to be a wheel rated for the load and trailer use, so car wheels will not work.

So, I first checked at local junk yards. No luck!

Then I posted a want ad for a new used wheel and tire in the classified section in this forum. No luck!

I shopped online and bought a steel wheel rated for my trailer for ~$60. Went to my local tire dealer and got a new tire to match the tires on my trailer for ~$100.

That was the best deal for me.

Someone actually stole your spare tire. That's pretty rotten. Did you have the AS in storage or elsewhere? Just curious!

I'm not 100% sure when/where it happened. Just before I left home I had dropped the tire and added air, so I know it was within a 4-5 week timeframe. I think it happened when parked at a campground, while I was not occupying the trailer. When I noticed it was gone I was at the campground, but I had been traveling shortly before. Whoever took it also took the time to place an old tire with a hole in it back into the spare holder so that it looked like nothing was wrong. I only noticed there was no wheel when I was under the trailer doing something else.
