19' Bambi tires

Same question need a set of 19' Bambi tires due to tread separation. I am thinking of going with heavy duty trailer tire. Any recommendations?

If they're 14 inch you might try Maxxis.

Bambi Tire

Tire was a Walmart HI RUN ST225 75/15 installed by previous owner 9 years prior. Tread completely separated and tore out trim on the inside of the rear portion of wheelwell. This the first time I have had a tire tread separated from tire. Tire looked fine with no obvious dry rot or cracking. I am looking at a set of 6 ply Goodyear Marathon Load Rangers for $319 out the door.

Welcome to the forum.

The Goodyear Marathons do not get good reviews here on the many tire threads, some of which are listed "above" in this sub-forum's rundown of topics:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f438/

Michelins seem to get favorable comments, and we are thinking of switching to them, but not sure what the options are in 15" as they seem to moving mostly to 16" . . .

Peter

PS -- FYI this thread contains similar issues:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f44/...ut-155074.html

PS2 -- Sorry for your damage, but 9 years may be pushing the limits of safety for a single-axle trailer tire IMO.

Sorry, no, but some of these repair sub-forums may be a better place to look:

General Repair: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f44/
Exterior Restoration: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f4/
Wheel Wells: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f479/

Good luck!

Peter

PS -- edit -- here are the search results for "airforums wheel well trim" FYI:

https://www.google.com/search?q=airf...utf-8&oe=utf-8

And these sites seem like good places to check:

http://airstreamsupply.com/wheel-wel...s-inner-684937
http://www.airstreamclassifieds.com/...well-trim-kit/

This last one reminds me, you could put a classified ad on this site:

http://www.airstreamclassifieds.com/

Any chance that Airstream still stocks trim that would fit? Your 2002 is not that old, and current inventory might be workable?

PS2 -- here are some more refined search results FYI:

https://www.google.com/search?q=airf....airforums.com

Good luck!

Nine years old!? Way over the 5 year recommendation. It was an accident waiting to happen, and did.

Lesson learned, I have the replacement tires now I am running down the outer wheel trim. It does not appear that the inner trim was damaged.

Some sources , such as Discount Tire, recommend replacing trailer tires after as little as three years. The time is from the date of manufacture, not the date they were put into service. Tires can sit in a warehouse for a long time before being installed.
  • "Time and the elements weaken a trailer tire.
  • In approximately three years, roughly one-third of the tire's strength is gone.
  • Three to five years is the projected life of a normal trailer tire.
  • It is suggested that trailer tires be replaced after three to four years of service regardless of tread depth or tire appearance."

Here is the decoding information from Tire Rack.
