did ya click on the photo in the last post for a close up?
see anything unusual about the left tire?
how about a closer view here.....
now what do those experienced with tire inspections think?
one fellow at the dealership felt that brake must have hung a little and skidded the tire...
another guy felt the diagonal pattern of wear wasn't skidding but an early sign of tread separation...
the other 7/8s of the tire does not show this pattern, but rather pretty even ware...
his opinion was, that as the tread lifts it will wear more in that location. folks don't usually see this happening because they don't take the wheel off and roll it around looking...
i don't know from adam, but i am glad i swapped tires when i did...
i also failed to inspect the inside of this tire...in retrospec i wish i'd take a knife to it, cut it up and inspected more closely...
cheers

In the photo of the tire above, is that a nail sticking out of the tread just above the worn area?
If so, the nail was the likely culprit for the separation.

One last question: When you had the tires rotated, do you know if the tires were ever moved from side to side, or only front to rear?
the rotations were front to back, back to middle and middle to front each time...
on the same side....
i considered cross rotations but couldn't sort out a good pattern for 6 tires. doing the rotations at 10k is much longer than my usual 3-5k on cars and trucks but the factory did the rotations and their advice was keep em on the same side...
cross rotation would be problematic for home diy, because both sides of the trialer would be lifted. i know you know this already...
cheers

looks like a "flat spot" to me, at least thats what us roundy rounders would call it. Caused by locking up the brakes or spinning out coming off turn 4. You been racing that thing 2 air?
Those flat spots look just like those on 2 out of 4 of my previous set of tires, Marathon's.
