That's very good advice, thanks!

We've been using the flow-thru sensors from TST for some time, so we'll just transfer those to the new wheels and re-program the system for the new pressures. Based on the Michelin inflation tables I'm guessing we'll want 65-70 PSI in the new tires.

I run 65 psi cold in my tires.
It gets closer to 70 psi as we travel and the tires heat up.

Target pressure for our 31' Classic is 72.5 psi from the Michelin tire pressure table. So the digital thermometer is either at 72 or 73 when the pressure is set.

Ran the gauntlet with the new wheels and tires through National Forest roads of Wyoming's High Country for the last two weeks.

Mud... dirt... soft... compact... all season boulder and rock routes... not ONE single issue.

Deep tread gains traction in the mud, but releases it onto everything in the way. Fender wells and front of the trailer rock guards! By the pound... not ounce.

The tailer tracked perfectly through all Cross Winds and any traction issues that could be tested by a steep grade climb out of Double Cabin, DuBois, Wyoming in a rain that was steady for 24 hours!

Of course, I must give credit to the SAME Michelin AT2 tires on my Ford F350.

After getting down to lower, warmer and drier elevations... the mud became concrete upon the Rock Guards and Fender Wells of our tow vehicle and trailer. As luck would have it... there is a Car/Truck Wash in Pinedale, Wyoming that was built with this all in mind... after $14.00 out of my pocket and pounds lighter!

I am absolutely thrilled with the results of both tow vehicle and tracking of our 25 foot Airstream. We could have easily been ditched and needed to be towed... although I have to give credit to a number of others who had to depart on short notice and also made it with no major difficulty. No doubt due to the driving skills of those navigating the pot holes of water and slop tossed onto the front of their trailers and coating all of the fender wells.

Double Cabin is missing several hundred pounds... as a group contribution to testing our Airstreams and Tow Vehicles during trying times!

The only thing with any noticeable wear... ME.

Ray, sounds like the trip was fun. Thanks for the real life test report on the tires and wheels.

Just finished a Thread on LTX and LTX2 Michelins. The latest comment was that they are not Mud and Snow tires. I can verify in MUD they do get traction and toss the mud to the rear... which is where my trailer was at the time.

The LTX2's on the trailer also tossed mud, and when dry, dust, as if I were a Crop Duster.

Snow tires are great in SNOW.
Snow tires are poor on dry pavement compared to LTX tires.
Snow tires are great in mud and back country unpaved roads.
Snow tires are poor for highway travel and noise beyond comprehension.

Our full time 4x4 2008 Land Cruiser, 2012 4x4 Tundra and now our 2016 Ford F350 use LTX Michelins. For ALL Seasons... a great tire.

... although this Spring at home in Castle Rock, Colorado with three feet of snow upon our block long driveway... I became stuck in front of our garage with the LTX AT2 tires. The drifts in the front of the garage were closer to four feet and I had to plow the driveway and dig the Tundra out... for the first time, ever. I suspect that I was now high centered and the tires were barely able to touch the asphalt driveway.

These tires are a great compromise and when dragging your differentials and axles in deep snow... maybe even a 'snow tire' may not have had a much better advantage. Next Spring... catch a Colorado Blizzard and show me yours...

Ray was the above thread this thread, a different thread on AF or elsewhere?

You're speaking of LT225/75R16/E LTX M/S2 correct?

I'm thinking of using these on my TV but dropping down from 19" rims to 17's, then the following year the going with the 16" sendels and the above.

Thx

Bob

Baked Potato's shoes have silver inlays rather than black inlays.

Those are nice too! We just thought the black would be fun for a little "drama".

It may be a post I made to which Ray is referring.
I bought the Michelin LTX M+S 2 tires for my truck and when I got home perused the label which the installer had removed. I also checked online and found that the "winter triangle" or "mountain snowflake" symbol which genuine winter/snow tires should display is not on the tire.
From the MIchelin site, where they clearly are proud of this tire, and they also noted that the symbol is not applicable to this tire.

I personally bought this tire because I thought it would be a good snow tire, and perhaps it might serve that as well as other tires, but the LTX is NOT a severe snow tire, and I thought the M+S label was misleading. YMMV

My decision was based on that the OE wheels on the Eddie Bauer with the wide black fender trim had the black inlays and the OE wheels on the new Classic have silver inlays.
I have a 2013 Classic.

Rocinante looking sweet. Another 20-footer, Waldosgone I believe also went for the black inlays and they're starting to grow on me. A little contrast with the the AS seems to make a huge difference.

Thanks Boxite, that helps. I think I need to do some homework re OR chain laws to see how this trigger chain requirements (when not towing). quite frankly if I need to chain up the TV and the TOAD, I'll be waiting at the bosom of the hill for clear AC

Thx
