Which axle?

Remember the old show, To Tell the Truth?

#1: My name is Dexter Axle.
#2: My name is Dexter Axle.
#3: My name is Dexter Axle.

I called JC, they told me one rating for my axle. The sticker on the door states something different. The only thing I can find on the Internet is for a 3rd rating still.

The axle number is 410875-24. It was manufactured in 2007, and is on my 2009 model. Anyone know the true rating? (And like your favorite professor would say, "cite your source".)

In advance, thanks!

Did you look on the VIN sticker?

Call Dexter (if you're sure it is a Dexter). They, in my own experience seem to be the only accurate records keeper. Is there a white label still visible on your axle? When I called them, that sticker was the definitive information source. With that info they quickly told me what I had, down to every optional component.

Yep, white label is still there. 410875-24 is the big number on the bottom. Or, should I be looking at a different number on the label?

When I called the order # seemed important as well as the part # you listed.

I can answer your question, but not until tomorrow.

The problem is, Dexter builds custom rated axles for OEM manufacturers. In my case, when I look at their website for parts, I would deduce I have a 6000lb axle.
All the metal components ARE INDEED for a 6000# axle. When AS spec'ed their needs, Dexter put in shorter torsion rubbers, in effect de-rating my axles to 5000#.

I think that is where a lot of the confusion comes from/

Most component manufacturers will do that for a industry partner. You want it to this spec. OK just order a couple thousand of them and you can have it anyway you want it.

When it needs to be replaced it may not be available as a one off build.

The automotive shock industry is like that. Even down to painting it any color you want with a sticker or label any way you want it.

The 410875-24 axle is rated at 5000 pounds and comes with disc brakes, and never lube hubs.

The 410875-17 axle is rated at 4500 pounds and was used on the "Sports" model.

Not according to Dexter...unless you reversed the model #s. Mine is the post above (410875-17); 30' Classic with nevr-lubes and disc brakes. Dexter said it was a 5000# axle?????

I am going by what Airstream has published on it's dealer site.

If that is wrong, then perhaps you could call them and tell them so. We don't have either of those axles on hand, therefore I cannot challenge what they published.

Do you show a 410875-17 at 4500#s with discs and Nevr-lube? If no, then something's screwy.

Jazzdad says his label shows 410875-24 and he has a 22 Sport. Do Sports have a discs or drums? Is Nevr-Lube an option on Sports?

My label says 410873-17 and I have a Classic with discs and Nevr-lubes.

It's been awhile....maybe that's what drove me to call Dexter....the label confusion, I mean.
