Where to look for the (original) Axle tag?

Our 65 Tradewind needs new axles. We believe they may still be the originals. Where do I look to find the tag that may still be on there to find the specs or nomenclature.
Thanks in advance

Look in the middle of the tube, either on top or on the front of the square tube.

Before we headed out this weekend we rolled underneath to look and did not find any Axle tags, nomenclature, serial numbers or specs. So our tag if it's still there, must be on the top. Could not see on top as the fit is to tight.

We'll likely be doing that project next. 14 miles of not so great Forest Road takes a toll on the interior. Thanks for your tips and input.

No need to find the tag.

We have all the axle specs used on Airstreams since 1961.

The trailer serial number is the key.

That's ridiculously handy. Do you need to have the tag? On a tradewind could you not just get a set of 3500lb torsion axles and upgrade the brakes at the same time?

I'm in Calgary and the axle shop mentioned on these forums, Standens, manufactures axles and will put the dexter brakes on as well. Installed a pair of axles is $1500CAD. You can also sell the used ones if there is any value left in them.

Should I be hunting for a specific model or set? They knew what I wanted as soon as I said 73 Airstream. I confirmed torsion and that was that.

Your original brakes were 12 inch. Do not down grade them to 10 inch.

Also, do not increase the axle rating beyond 3500 pounds.

At this point of technology, "self adjusting" electric brakes is the way to go.

They cost a little more, but you no longer would need to be concerned about the adjustment.

Most Canadian owners have the axles shipped to someone in the US, and then pick them up there.

Saves shipping costs and duties.
