Wheel bearings on 2007 classic?

Is it true the wheel bearings on 2007 classics, with Dexter running gear, are sealed and do not need to be repacked each year?

The Classic's have sealed bearings.

All other models have standard type bearings.

The hub and drums on the classics should still be pulled every 10,000 miles to inspect the brakes, for wear, or broken parts.

Sealed bearings setups have a tendency to cause owners to ignore the electric brakes.

Not a good idea.

the new classics also have disc brakes so there is no drum to inspect.

the rotors and pads and calipers can be checked easily by removing the wheel.

the 'nevr lube' bearing pack is warranted for up to 100k miles.

and while it isn't serviceable, 'sealed' is a relative term.

i'd still be cautious about submerging a wheel/bearing pack in water....

changes like the nev r lube bearings often happen mid year or near the end of a model run...

so exact dates of 'change over' are hard to find.

the 07/08s have the 100k bearings...

NONE of the 05 classic units do.

the change from drums to disc brakes was march/april 05, the last 3 months of the model year.

most of the 05s don't have dexter axles, they have henschens.

henschens doesn't offer a sealed bearing pack...

and it's my understanding, the dexter bearings don't fit on henschens axles.

dexter's nev r lube bearings CAN be used with drum brakes on these new dexter axles..

try the search function, most issues already have useful info posted...

unless your unit has been altered, it has henschens axles, but there is a tag/marker on the axles with this info,

and your owners packet should even contain the serial numbers for the axles.

alternatively email a/s tech support with your vin number and get the correct info.

This is 100% correct!

That is the greatest limitation of the Nev-R-lube system.

My 06 Classic has the never lube sealed bearings with disk brakes. Did they go back to drums for the 07s?

No, my 2007 Classic has hydraulic disc breaks.

Hi, how would anyone know if you have 100 miles or 100,000 miles on your trailer? Or where is the Black Box hidden on our trailers? Maybe it should be 10 years or lifetime. Is that estimated life or warranty? [100K Bearings]

i agree unless we install mile meters who would know distance?

for airstream specific owners the warranty used to state that the bearings MUST be initially inspected at 6 months or the warranty is void.

this was until the switch to dexter/nev r lube.

so i don't know how the current fine print reads...

dexter has a very complete website with install instructions, warranty info, service manuals, parts and so on....

i like the henschen/kodiak/actibrake hat trick!

fwiw, the dexter axle/nev-r lube set up cannot be retro fitted to pre '06 classics without modification to the frame/mounting brackets...

When you fly an airplane, you must always keep two logs. One for the engine/engines and one for the airframe. So I was well trained.

During my towing years, I always kept a towing log book in the glove compartment of the TV.

I would list the date and the miles for that date, the beginning location and the ending location for that date as well. That made weekly, monthly and yearly totals, a piece of cake, as well knowing where I had been and when.

All you need is a small spirel notebook. Costs maybe 50 cents.

My boss loved it.

Certainly far superior to a hubometer.
