Wheel Bearings

I took the Behemoth to my local mechanic last week (who is competent, and whom I trust implicitly) to have the bearings packed. I didn't want to have to tow the trailer clear up to Cedar Falls to Ace Fogdall just to have the bearings packed. The PO reported that he had them packed last spring, but I thought I ought to get them looked at.

Surprise, surprise... the outer bearing grease looked new. The inner bearings hadn't been touched in a VERY long time, and the grease was black as the ace of spades. Yuchhh! Gee, how do you think THAT happened?

If I knew where he'd had them packed, I'd sure be reporting that mechanic to you! Unfortunately, I don't have any paperwork on that most recent service, so I can't tell you who did half the job for full price.

The moral to the story... make sure you know who's doing your work and what they're really doing!

bulk discount

Florence, the parts manager at Ace Fogdall, just loves to hear the sound of my voice on the phone! She can just hear that ol' cash register a-ringin' away everytime I call! They package everything in 'six-packs-to-go' just for me (except for door hardware which comes in two-packs...)
