What's this axle worth- New Henschen 3500??

I found a guy locally who has ONE axle. I will need two but an wondering if I can get a decent deal on this one for my 68 Aitstream Sovereign.

and will it work for a 30 ft Sovereign???

The guys says its new
ADD SAYS
"For Sale!

Henschen Axle for 60's era Airstream Travel Trailer.

This axle has a 3500# weight capacity and includes trailer brakes.

I purchased this axle new to install on a 1967 Airstream Caravel, but sold the trailer before I installed the axle. It has been stored indoors ever since it was purchased. "

I'd find out how old it is. If its been sitting around for 5 or 10 years the rubber cord might have taken a set.

Also, his ad here says 3200#, not 3500#.

Even if the axle is new enough to consider you can not mix axle weights on the trailer. If it is the same weight that you will order for the second axle than make a deal.

also depends on the year of trailer.. those '60's trailers were 7.5 feet wide.. 70's 8 feet, newer, 8.5 feet wide.

Besides, 7500 pounds of axle is alot of spring capacity for a 60's tandem axle trailer...

$800 seems like alot for a $750 axle. I would only use it as a single as it probably doesn't match very well with a new one.

A 67 Caravel would use a 3500 pound Henschen axle, with 10 inch brakes. Rarely do we supply one with 12 inch brakes.

It will not work on your 68 30 foot Airstream since it has 10 minch brakes and your 30 footer requires 12 inch brakes.

Both axles must be the same rating and have the same operational qualities.

It's not likely that the axle in question is bad, but it could be.

If you can provide his name via a PM, I will look up the records to find out that axles age.

Andy
