It looks like "assco". They must stand behind their product.

Nothing like standing BEHIND what they create. Unless of course there is a flat.

They also kept you from '"bottoming out" on a steep incline...

Here is what I found out about ASSCO.

ASSCO Home Page

Maybe trains get flat tires.

sounds like fun, I wonder if we could do something like this in the US.

I don't think it's the Australian one. Maybe it's named after a town in CO.

Butt maybe not.

It all makes sense. It was probably made in the old gold rush town of Air Stream Settlement, Colorado.

During the 1859 gold rush, a group of affluent prospectors saw the tent cities that sprung up, and decided they didn't like the living conditions. They brought Airstream trailers from the east and started their own mining settlement.

When the gold petered out the trailers were shipped to gold mining camps in South Africa. Today they are on the roof of a hotel there.

The ground where the settlement was located has been assimilated into the the mining towns of Central City and Black Hawk, and gold mining has resumed in earnest. However, now instead of mining the gold from the ground with unsightly cumbersome equipment, they are mining it from the pockets of tourists using large fancy casinos.

That is the rest of the story.

Regards,

Ken

I worked near Central about 30 years ago at a mine that was being redeveloped. Sometimes we would find an old town sign that said "A.S.S.CO., 8,510' elevation" but we thought it was just a joke. We didn't realize it was a part of history.

Were any of these signs Aluminum? Since commercial production of aluminum did not start until 1886, it is widely believed that the Airstream trailers brought west during the gold rush, were built with the help of the same aliens that helped the Egyptians build the pyramids.

Yes Ken, they were aluminum. The strange symbols on the back were washed out from the age and did look like hydroglyphics.

Back during the CO gold rush Black Hawk was the location of many smelters and it's possible that limited production of aluminum was experimented with using ancient formulae brought from Cairo, Ill.
