Shock absorber mounts for lift kit

I will be adding the Dexter lift kit to my '68 Sovereign. I have the standard shock absorbers and am wondering if I can use the original shock mounts or will I need to weld new ones on? The lift kit will lower my axles +/- 3". What have others done? The instructions that came with the kit do not mention shock absorbers.

You should be able to use the current ones. I’ve done 4 lifts on Airstreams and on all we used the factory mounts.

My 2002 Classic had Henschen axles. I replaced the axles with Dexters and had to modify the shock mounts. You didn't mention that you were changing the axles, so there should be no need to modify the mounts. The axle will just be a little lower.

The lift kit is a different question. If you have Dexter axles you should be fine. If not you may have to modify some combination of the trailer, lift kit, or axles. In my case we slotted one hole on the axle bracket when I changed axles. We then had to slot one hole on the lift kit to get it to mate up with the trailer when I added it later.

Al, I have Al-ko Axis axles purchased from Colin Hyde. They are exact replacements for my original axles and I believe they are also identical to Dexters. I also bought my Dexter lift kit from Colin. I was able to use the original shock mounts.

Thanks GMFL. It’s good to hear that from someone who has installed several of these. I do not weld so that is encouraging.
