Reversed Axles on an Airstream

Greetings Honorable Forum Members:

Newer AS owner here....

A friend of mine bought a 19' stick trailer/toy hauler and raised his trailer by "reversed axels"; or placing them above or below the springs (Don't remember now...). The modification really did increase clearance. My friend claims that this is easy to do....

Can this be done with Airstreams' axels? It would be nice to have the extra clearance for off road, however, I want reliability too, and I don't want to do anything to my AS that would not be appropriate.

(Did a search for reversed axles, and came up nada.)

Afraid it won't work on the newer models. If you have something older than a 1962, with leaf springs, then it is a possiblilty.

Hi HHP--Your friend had leaf springs, which can be eaisly mounted above the axle for increased clearance. Your 2006 Safari has a torsion axle, which gives you a better ride, and performance, but does not lend itself to increased clearance, without major modification. You really don't want to take your A/S off road. It is too long to handle well off road. It will however follow you on any unpaved road you can move a T/V with factory size tires along.--Frank S

Thanks all!

His trailer may have reversed axles, but the coolness factor is with the Airstream.....
