replace axles
I have a 1965 Tradewind. I'm wondering if I have to replace the axles? I jacked the trailer and the wheel dropped 3" and the arms are pointing down 10 or 15 degrees when sitting on the axles. I have been towing it all over the place and it tows nice..Is there any chance these axles are fine?
Thanks!

I still have the original axles on my 61. While there are many good reasons to replace axles. I personally believe a lot of axles are changed that don't need to be.
If it tows well and you don't appear to be beating anything to death I would not be overly concerned about it.
If you have a gas light, how long the mantle lasts can be a good indicator of whats happening in the trailer when its moving. I have had them last an entire season
I expect I will get a lot of flack for saying that however

Have someone tow you down a rough road while you are inside and evaluate if the ride is smooth

Your describing axles that are very much OK.
Perhaps a previous owner replaced them.
Are the brakes 10" or 12" ?
Check the data plate that is on the axles and perhaps that would answer your questions further.

I am with Andy on this one. I think they have been replaced already which almost never happens unless the PO spent some time here. There should be some ID plates on them. I think they are on the axle tube.

I want to check my data plates, too. Where exactly on the axles are they located? Where on the axle tube, and do they have an exact date of manufacture on them?

There is a small metal plate tack welded to the square tube of each axle.

You really don't have too
It is like riding in the back seat in a state that does not require back sweaters to wear seat belts you really don't have to wear the the belts they only help IF you are in an Accident! One of the PO's of our caravel kept the old axles. Nuff said

I have to replace the curb side panel for the wheel well and only because the frankenstine look just does not look good on a caravel, he saved 1100.00 and cost me 2200.00! Gotta love those cost savings.
Just my sob story
