Hi There,

We buyed this Summer a 1961 Airstream Tradewind 24 and shipped her to Europe ( The Netherlands )
We want to swap the axle for a new one, but the questions is: Can the axle be remove under the Airstream , or do you have to open up the subfloor and unbolt the axle there? Every respons is helpfull!!

Right about that time period they went from a standard leaf spring axle to a rubber torsion spring axle. I am assuming yours is a torsion axle. Usually, there are two large bolts that bolt the axle to a mounting plate that is welded to the frame. You should be able to remove them from below.

When torsion axles were first used, some were welded on and not bolted. You should check.

Thanks Perry and Bill, for the quick respond, seen the bolts on the mounting plate, that probably the only connection. I will post tommorrow some picture from the axle, ( its nighttime overhere) Thanks appreciate for support
