this never happened, it's incorrect info previously posted HERE on this forum,
and echoed by those who read it without knowing IF it's true or not.
________
in 2003-5 a/s began a transition to dexters...
by late 2006 all the units were on dexters.
there was no
1 year thing, and they didn't go back to henschens.
we can speculate as to WHY this happened,
for example there was a bearing/grease/hub issue on some trailer made in 2004...
which has been OFTEN suggested at the basis for changing axle suppliers.
but it's also important to realize that a/s gets frames, brakes, hubs AND axles and other stuff from dexter (or sister companies)...
dex is HUGE in this business of suppling trailer, bus and other utility vehicles parts...
a/s is a TINY company, they can't afford to be dependent on a marginal supplier,
or financially troubled company for critical bits.
they also can't dictate to the big suppliers, on how to spec bits.
henschen made some very good axles over the years and also made some duds.
companies close plants, business die or are acquired, it happens.
and someone jumps in to fill the void IF it seems reasonable.
that axis purchased some of the henschens stuff is great for folks rebuilding old cans...
who THINK they want nearly original stuff.
we've got options now that weren't widely available just 2 years ago.
___________
it's great we've got alternative vendors/suppliers now who QUIETLY go about the biz of supporting the aluminum can club.
VENDORS aren't allowed to quote prices here for good reasons.
customers can but those quotes are often VERY unreliable and may not tell the full story.
we (here) were subject to LOTS of misleading info on a/s related parts and still are DAILY.
often this stuff comes directly from vendors who twist facts or simply make up stuff, which guides buyers to their products or services.
this has happened here for everything from axles to light bulbs.
it still happens every day, perhaps less often from old vendors but MORE often from new players in the 'sell u stuff' game.
buyers must do their homework...
and sharing is good, enthusiasm for sharing is good too...
just don't repeat stuff that's false
and don't expect everyone to agree with a personal 'truth'...
this place like ALL of life is full of deception.
caveat emptor AND caveat venditor
cheers
