Well our A/S predates the torsion axles and has conventional springs. The bushings are shot. I have some concern about 43 year old rusty springs as well. Wouldn't mind the trailer sitting a little higher to help rear end clearence.
My problem is where to find the correct springs and bushings for a camper that should be about 4,000 lb traveling down the road. Anybody replaced a set in the past that can point me at a supplier? How much more rating should I add in for the weigt distribution hitch will put on the,? My understanding is the hitch shifts the weight back to the trailer. I don't want it too stiff and start pounding the camper but I can see how I could easily get too soft as well.
Thanks

How about a trailer place. If you have eye to eye dimension, they should be able to set you up. You might even be able to get some choice in arch for clearance.
Be careful as to how high it raises the trailer up. An inch or so migh be great, but more than that could change the center of gravity when you turn. The weight bars could help keep it stable, but too high is just as bad as too low.

I'm looking for about 2.5-3 inches. One inch is just the wore out bushings alone. They are pretty beat up and I figure they are not helping the stability when towing.
I figure I have sagged at least another inch. Knowing that I'm lookig for about 1 inch over what it was 40 years ago. LOL

Anybody else? I'm really trying to figure out what weight of spring to look for. If I have to I know of companmies that can make them if I give them the weight it needs to support.

You should try to find a company that rebuilds springs.
I once had a Jeep CJ 5 that had worn out springs. I found a place here in Jackson Miss. that did nothing but build/rebuild leaf springs, mostly for large trucks.
They re-tempered the old leafs and added 1 more leaf to those. They put in new bushing in the ends also.
I have a 1953 Cruiser with leaf springs and will probably someday want to have them rebuilt.
