New Axles No Problem

I worked on installing the new Axle's over the weekend. Couldn't wait to see how much difference they would make to the ride and ground clearance.
The Axle's are HEAVY. If you are careful and take your time it can be done by yourself. After removing the first one I realized what had to be done and the second one went easier. The third one was a little more challenging. I had to remove the gas line to the water heater in order to drop the unit. A floor jack with a long reach is a plus. just put the floor jack under one end of the axle with the other end resting on a furniture dolly and you can get bolts started to hold up the end. Move the floor jack to the other end and raise it to start the bolts. Now move the jack to the middle of the axle and support the weight to tighten the bolts with an air impact. Things couldn't have gone smoother. I really had my doubts about doing this by myself, but this is my TT and all of the work done so far has been by my own hand and I want to keep it that way.
The difference in the ground clearance is remarkable. I can actually see the top of the rubber on my tire. Before I could see the top of the rim. I will post a before and after pic as soon as I can. It must have been 4-5 in lift.
Anyone that thinks this is a lot of work is right, but can be done by one person. I am 64 and pretty active but managed to do it, so you can to if you try. Just be safe and don't try to hurry.
Now I need to go camping to check out the ride difference. See if it shakes up the inside as much as before.

Nice to hear things went well. Good to see folks doing it themselves. I've owned my AS for about a year and I'm the only one who has put a wrench on it since I got it. I too want to keep it that way. It may take me a little longer the first time, but it gets done.
