More Henschen Axle Woes

Just purchased a trailer with tandem Henschen axles. The front axle has completely fallen off, and the rear axle is tearing loose. since it is out of warranty (a 94) the local dealer wants not much to do with it. On Thursday we are going to take our first look at it (so far everything is hearsay from the former owner), attempt to jack it up and put it on stands, and decide what to do next. Apparently the axles are attached to the trailer via a metal plate which is (was) welded to the frame. bolts through this plate attach the axle 9Type HN-2-035-TB5-70-A). We hope at this point to put a blcok over the axle, chain it up to something, and drag it to the nearest welder. When we get a good look at the axles we will then decide what to do next, repair or replace, with same or something else, unknown to me at this time. Anyone care to add any suggestions here?

Whoa....

you bought this trailer? Have you seen it firsthand? It would take some serious forces to dislodge one of these axles. Was it in an accident? If it's from rust damage, I'd inspect the rest of the frame closely. I'm sure the rest of the frame is fairly poor shape if it's from rust.

Kinda sounds like it was in a jackknife accident. Only some serious sideloads would do this kind of damage.
Beware.
