Looking for '67 Caravel axle choices

I'm in the market for a new axle for my 67 Caravel.
I asked these questions via email and received a quote:

I'm in the market for a new axle fo my 67 caravel.
Will bolt holes match & shocks mount the same?

I want a total axle with new hubs. They are currently 10". Is it possible or advantageous to go to a 12".
What would be the down angle I would need?

What would be the cost for axle & shocks shipped to Newcastle, OK 73065.

Shipping to your zip code is $228 Axle will be 3200-3500# 12" brakes/drum 6 lug on 5.5 pattern 35° down angle on the torsion arm, shock brackets loose for locating in respect to your shock mounts, you will need to drill 1/2" holes in the mounting plate as your old holes will not line up, we will provide the mounting hardware.
Axle $750 complete
Shocks $30.95 each
4 weeks lead time on the axle

Check the stamped plate on your old axle for the weight rating. Your 67 Caravel's dry weight is 2450 lbs, 200 lbs more than my 65 Caravel at 2250 lbs. The axle weight rating may have moved up accordingly. Try this link for more info on Caravel axles.

3200 pounds is a good upgrade. 3500 pounds is a maximum, but only if you will always travel with a heavy payload.

The original rating for your Caravel was 3000 pounds.

Yes, we also carry 3000 pound axles for the Caravels.

For your 67, you can go with 10" or 12" brakes.

Andy, I need to order the exact same thing for my 67 Caravel -- what are the advantages/disadvantages of 10" vs 12" brakes? Does the TV make a difference (05 Pilot)?

And is there any reason to choose the 3000 lb axle over the 3200?

The 12" brakes offer more "stopping" power. The cost is the same.

The original axle has a 3000 pound rating. A 3200 pound replacement offers a little more pay load capacity. A 3500 pound replacement is for those owners who carry a "large" pay load.

For the average owner, 3200 pounds works just fine.

I have been reading about Caravel axles here for a while and getting a little concerned about the 40 year old one on our trailer. I called Inland RV a while ago and ordered a new axel. Yesterday I hauled Bucky down to Corona and asked if the new axle could be installed by noon. After the laughing subsided I went home. At 2PM Greg called and told me it was done. I picked the trailer up this morning and everything is great. They did a great job very quickly and pointed out a few things I can work on while I'm fixing everything else. We replaced everything and had the shock mounts redone. I could have done it myself and saved a bit, but at least I am sure it was done right. I was assured that the new axle will have no trouble carrying the keg of beer and ice...
